Identification <strong>of</strong> participants in N. Ireland was based on knowledge <strong>of</strong> local networks and expertise and general<br />
recommendation from umbrella organisations such as DCAL, Arts Council <strong>of</strong> Northern Ireland, Heritage<br />
Lottery Fund and Political Party spokespersons on Arts & Culture or party nominations.<br />
The criteria were that the group would reflect government, statutory, academic and NGO sectors. Individually,<br />
the members would have direct involvement in their organisations with regeneration issues and be in a key<br />
decision making role in the sector at a local and regional level.<br />

Overview <strong>of</strong> study visit:<br />
To Address the Core themes <strong>of</strong> ‘Regionalism and Cultural & Social Regeneration’ including the following:<br />
- Regional Cultural Policies: Determine priorities in cultural and social activism and development.<br />
- Exploration <strong>of</strong> the role <strong>of</strong> policy in contributing to civic societies and encouraging active citizenship.<br />
- Role and management <strong>of</strong> multiculturalism in stabilising transitional societies.<br />
- Establishing mechanisms for collaborative work and participating in fora for discussion <strong>of</strong> common<br />
interests.<br />
To visit specific sites and explore case studies in the following areas:<br />
- Culture regeneration & urban development.<br />
- Cultural policy & regional priorities.<br />
- Tangible heritage sites.<br />
- Multi agency approaches with private and public partnerships.<br />
- Development <strong>of</strong> quality tourism<br />
- Young people, employment generation & increasing access.
