Objectives Development of a professional contact base that addresses the themes of the visit. Identification of potential for applied learning to promote development of regions. Identification of potential programmes for future collaborations and partnership approaches to development. Establishing opportunities for networking and for access to the Alliance of European Cultural Cities. Further development of cultural partnership as an output of visit. Work Mentoring visit to take place in December 04. Pre-visit briefing Initial Study Visit to Toledo following contacts made by partner organisation Quartiers en Crise. Contacts were developed with key representatives from various organisations and the return visit planned over a number of months. Study visit programme (Please see appendix 1 for programme) Outcomes Information exchange and access to current intelligence with regard to regional specific developments. Specific contacts developed that will allow NICEC access to information and potential partnerships in application to key European and regional programmes and events. Presentation of NICEC project to regional government and non-governmental agents. Identification of potential themes for future project partnerships. Identification of specific projects for collaborative activity and engagement of N. Ireland partners with Toledo and within EU programmes of development. Building of good will and support mechanisms with key personnel to help progress mutual co-operation in our work.
Summary of visit The visit was deemed to be highly successful by all partners involved. There have been a number of proposals tabled that will now be progressed through the NICEC Work Mentoring programme. The visit highlighted the potential for Derry City to engage in European partnerships that can bring both expertise and financial reward. The visit also highlighted the role of NICEC in furthering N. Ireland’s potential as an outward and forward thinking region. Next steps A work mentoring visit is scheduled to allow for key personnel from Derry City Council, the University and local community representation to work directly on project proposals for specific culture regeneration projects in Derry / Londonderry. Derry City Council has made recommendations to pursue this partnership actively in the period post 2004. Any additional information There has been an extensive publicity output for the visit and a press pack is available. In addition, more detailed reports are available that outline the contact base of the partner organisations and outcomes achieved with each organisation specifically.
