<strong>AmCham</strong> Co-hosts Prime M<strong>in</strong>ster at U.S. <strong>Chamber</strong><br />

On February 28, the Danish Prime<br />

M<strong>in</strong>ister spoke at the U.S. <strong>Chamber</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Commerce</strong>. The speech entitled<br />

'Meet<strong>in</strong>g Global Challenges:<br />

Strengthen<strong>in</strong>g the Transatlantic<br />

Partnership', marked the beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>of</strong> M<strong>in</strong>ister Rasmussen’s three day<br />

visit to Wash<strong>in</strong>gton and President<br />

Bush’s private residence <strong>in</strong> Crawford,<br />

Texas.<br />

In his address at the <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Commerce</strong>, the Danish Prime<br />

M<strong>in</strong>ister focused on transatlantic economic<br />

cooperation; climate and<br />

energy; and how to meet political<br />

and security policy challenges. The<br />

Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister gave the speech <strong>in</strong><br />

front <strong>of</strong> around 100 <strong>in</strong>vited guests<br />

and press. The event was co-sponsored<br />

by <strong>AmCham</strong> Denmark and the<br />

<strong>American</strong>-Danish Bus<strong>in</strong>ess Council.<br />

Dur<strong>in</strong>g the 40 m<strong>in</strong>utes long speech,<br />

Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister Rasmussen discussed<br />

ways <strong>of</strong> further<strong>in</strong>g transatlantic free<br />

trade and open <strong>in</strong>vestments with a<br />

view to strengthen<strong>in</strong>g the transatlantic<br />

economic partnership<br />

between the U.S. and the EU.<br />

The Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister addressed three<br />

ma<strong>in</strong> issues to create a strong transatlantic<br />

partnership: trade, energy and<br />

security.<br />

“The United States and Europe are<br />

core partners and allies. But the ultimate<br />

goal is<br />

not to engage<br />

<strong>in</strong> an exclusive<br />

transatlantic<br />

cooperation.<br />

Our common<br />

values and<br />

<strong>in</strong>terests are<br />

not conf<strong>in</strong>ed to<br />

a certa<strong>in</strong> geographic<br />

area. They are widely shared<br />

with other democracies and peoples<br />

throughout the world.”<br />

Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister Rasmussen also spoke<br />

about major political and security policy<br />

issues confront<strong>in</strong>g the EU and the<br />

U.S. and emphasized the importance<br />

<strong>of</strong> strong transatlantic cooperation<br />

and <strong>in</strong>stitutions such as NATO <strong>in</strong><br />

Danish Prime M<strong>in</strong>ister, Anders Fogh<br />

Rasmussen addresses the U.S. <strong>Chamber</strong> <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>Commerce</strong> members <strong>in</strong> Wash<strong>in</strong>gton DC.<br />

cooperation with the U.S.
