AmCham Co-hosts Prime Minster at U.S. Chamber
On February 28, the Danish Prime
Minister spoke at the U.S. Chamber
of Commerce. The speech entitled
'Meeting Global Challenges:
Strengthening the Transatlantic
Partnership', marked the beginning
of Minister Rasmussen’s three day
visit to Washington and President
Bush’s private residence in Crawford,
Texas.
In his address at the Chamber of
Commerce, the Danish Prime
Minister focused on transatlantic economic
cooperation; climate and
energy; and how to meet political
and security policy challenges. The
Prime Minister gave the speech in
front of around 100 invited guests
and press. The event was co-sponsored
by AmCham Denmark and the
American-Danish Business Council.

Chamber underlines the importance
of a strong transatlantic partnership.”
During the 40 minutes long speech,
Prime Minister Rasmussen discussed
ways of furthering transatlantic free
trade and open investments with a
view to strengthening the transatlantic
economic partnership
between the U.S. and the EU.

welcome the Prime Minister and Danish Ambassador Friis Arne Petersen.
The Prime Minister addressed three
main issues to create a strong transatlantic
partnership: trade, energy and
security.

not to engage
in an exclusive
transatlantic
cooperation.
Our common
values and
interests are
not confined to
a certain geographic
area. They are widely shared
with other democracies and peoples
throughout the world.”

Prime Minister Rasmussen also spoke
about major political and security policy
issues confronting the EU and the
U.S. and emphasized the importance
of strong transatlantic cooperation
and institutions such as NATO in
Danish Prime Minister, Anders Fogh

Afghanistan and elsewhere. The development
of a European Security and
Defence Policy illustrates the readiness
of the EU to pursue a more active global
