Top Design Firms 04
Welcome to Southwest Contractor’s annual ranking of the
top design firms. The information on the following pages
was gathered through surveys that were sent to hundreds
of architects and engineers in Arizona, New Mexico and
Nevada. We thank all of the firms who provided us with
their information, allowing us to produce the most detailed
ranking of its kind in the Southwest.
The Top 125 Design Firms are ranked by the combined total Arizona, Nevada and
New Mexico revenue for 2003. There are also state-by-state rankings, as well as
rankings in various specialties, such as environmental and transportation.
The 139 participating firms reported $1.26 billion in design work for 2003, a significant
16 percent increase over the previous year. The strong surge in design work
propelled big increases in each state, with a 17 percent jump in Arizona, 11 percent
in Nevada, and an encouraging 21 percent rise in New Mexico over 2002 numbers.
This marks two years in a row that all three states had double-digit increases in

revenue, which bodes well for future
construction volume in the Southwest.
This year we have continued to
improve the section to provide the most
accurate and useful information to our
readers, presented in an easy-to-read format.
New categories include land development,
which shows a total of $46.79
million in new subdivision development
work in 2003. Also new this year, the category
of general building has been
enhanced, providing more specific
breakout numbers on healthcare, educational
and retail construction, among
others.
