Urease enzymes present in feces release
ammonia from the urine, causing an acute
irritant effect
Disruption of the epidermal barrier allows the
entry of Candida which is present in feces
Wet and dirty diapers that are not changed on a
regular basis contribute to the development of
diaper dermatitis
