Physical Examination<br />

Be complete, examining both places that the patient<br />

indicates there may be a lesion as well as places the<br />

patient may not be obvious to the patient<br />

For example, it is important to examine the cleft <strong>of</strong><br />

the buttock in a patient with psoriasis<br />

For skin cancer patients, a complete examination <strong>of</strong> all<br />

sun exposed areas is essential (full body skin exam)<br />

Adequate illumination is essential for seeing skin lesions<br />

Magnification may help in identifying lesions<br />

Palpate lesions (with gloves)<br />
