Anna Nielsen went to school in the famous, Danish village Skagen, which is s<strong>it</strong>uated at the<br />
very tip <strong>of</strong> Denmark. At the age <strong>of</strong> 12, she moved w<strong>it</strong>h her family to Ireland. Anna went to<br />
secondary school and took her Leaving Certificate in Dublin, and later she took a Diploma in<br />
Arch<strong>it</strong>ectural Technology. She married her fellow student Gerrard and has three children. She<br />
works at home in her own ’Studio Gallery’ w<strong>it</strong>h design, art and publishing <strong>of</strong> books. Anna is a<br />
member <strong>of</strong> the IDI and the ’Crafts Council <strong>of</strong> Ireland’, and has <strong>part</strong>icipated at countless exhib<strong>it</strong>ions.<br />
She has lived in Ireland for over 40 years, but she still holds on to her Danish roots.<br />
Anna explains about the new series <strong>of</strong> zodiacs:<br />
‘I suffered from back problems and had to keep still<br />
for more than two months, during which, I spent most<br />
<strong>of</strong> my time studying horoscopes, and how they have<br />
changed over the last couple <strong>of</strong> centuries. I thought <strong>it</strong><br />
would be fun to try and draw some myself. To me,<br />
astronomy is not a science; <strong>it</strong> is just something interesting<br />
and entertaining. I collected information about each<br />
zodiac, and w<strong>it</strong>h a combination <strong>of</strong> that knowledge and<br />
a large portion <strong>of</strong> humour, I drew my own interpretation<br />
<strong>of</strong> the zodiacs – since then I have drawn 3 series <strong>of</strong><br />
zodiac, the last one exclusively for <strong>Rikki</strong> <strong>Tikki</strong>.’<br />
