Many aviati<strong>on</strong> meteorological data products are defined in aviati<strong>on</strong> regulati<strong>on</strong>s which are maintained<br />

jointly by ICAO <strong>and</strong> WMO (both recognised by ISO as st<strong>and</strong>ards bodies); these are currently excluded<br />

from the scope of AC-MF. However, if meteorological elements required by INSPIRE extend up into<br />

the atmosphere, they will naturally impinge <strong>on</strong> aviati<strong>on</strong> regulati<strong>on</strong>s. <str<strong>on</strong>g>Data</str<strong>on</strong>g> modelling for INSPIRE, as it<br />

exp<strong>and</strong>s should avoid c<strong>on</strong>flicting with these aviati<strong>on</strong> regulati<strong>on</strong>s.<br />

With respect to the distincti<strong>on</strong> between the two themes ―<strong>Atmospheric</strong> C<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s‖ <strong>and</strong> ―Meteorological<br />

Geographical Features‖, no criteria could be found to make it operati<strong>on</strong>al, so the versi<strong>on</strong> 2 of the data<br />

specificati<strong>on</strong> document was prepared to cover both themes in <strong>on</strong>e document. It appeared that this did<br />

not cause any difficulty with the user needs expressed through the identified Use Cases nor with any<br />

of the issues raised during the commenting period <strong>on</strong> versi<strong>on</strong> 2. Therefore, the merging of the two<br />

themes into <strong>on</strong>e theme labelled ―<strong>Atmospheric</strong> C<strong>on</strong>diti<strong>on</strong>s <strong>and</strong> Meteorological Geographical Features‖<br />

has been proposed <strong>and</strong> the present versi<strong>on</strong> of the data specificati<strong>on</strong> document is provided under this<br />

label <strong>on</strong>ly.<br />

2.2.1 Definiti<strong>on</strong> of the m<strong>and</strong>atory <strong>and</strong> recommended data sets<br />

Recommendati<strong>on</strong> 1 The data made available should include, but not be limited to, the following<br />

parameters, spatial coverage <strong>and</strong> resoluti<strong>on</strong>, temporal coverage <strong>and</strong><br />

resoluti<strong>on</strong>.<br />

observing network aiming at assisting in defining the state of the atmosphere at least <strong>on</strong> a<br />

scale of the order of 200 km in the horiz<strong>on</strong>tal <strong>and</strong> six to 12 hours in time (ref. WMO Resoluti<strong>on</strong><br />

40, Cg XII).<br />

Temporal coverage <strong>and</strong> resoluti<strong>on</strong><br />

Past <strong>and</strong> present data as available<br />

Wind, temperature <strong>and</strong> humidity: 6-hourly data<br />

Evaporati<strong>on</strong> <strong>and</strong> precipitati<strong>on</strong>: daily data, 24-hour accumulated<br />

Furthermore, where feasible, the data should also include the following parameters, spatial coverage<br />

<strong>and</strong> resoluti<strong>on</strong>, temporal coverage <strong>and</strong> resoluti<strong>on</strong>:<br />
