Christianity has a lot to say about culture. It creates 

a culture of its own, it exists within other cultures 

everywhere it is. It’s easy for Christians to assume 

that our own church culture is “right” and the 

culture around us is “wrong.” By interacting with 

literature produced by those both inside and outside 

the church, we will seek to see what Scripture says 

about culture, both Christian and otherwise.

God plans salvation (election), accomplishes it (the 

work of Christ), and applies it to us. God’s applying 

his grace to our lives is the application of salvation. 

Another name for it is union with Christ. God 

saves us by spiritually joining us to his Son. In this 

mystical union his saving benefi ts become ours. We 

will explore this magnifi cent truth and its applied 

fruits in the Old Testament, John’s gospel, Paul’s 

letters, John’s letters, and the book of Revelation.

Galatians: A Bold Call to Doctrinal Purity 

James West | Fellowship Hall D–F 

Ecclesia Reformata, Semper Reformanda (The 

Reformed Church, Always Reforming), it’s not just 

a motto, it’s a picture of the cycle every church 

goes through. The church is initially planted with 

sound doctrine, this is its formation, then through 

the infl uence of the world, the fl esh, and the devil, 

it becomes deformed; corrupt in its doctrine, thus 

reformation is needed. The Church at Galatia 

faced the same thing, it was formed by Paul on 

one of his missionary journeys, then deformed 

by the Judiazers, so Paul wrote a strong letter of 

Reformation. This class will be a study of the Book 

of Galatians, Paul’s most strongly worded, blunt, and 

direct letter; boldly calling the Galatian Church (and 

indeed Christians in all ages) to doctrinal purity.

E Youth Choir Concert The Trinity pca Youth Choir from Montgomery, al is coming to give a concert on 

Friday, June 1 at 6:30 pm. Please join us at 5:15 pm to welcome them with a pizza party. Please call the

E Student Ministry Summer Kickoff ! Picnic in the courtyard, grilled burgers, lots of food, hanging out with 

other students and families, playing games... Sound like fun? If you are a 7th–12th grade student, or a 

family member of a student, then come on down to the courtyard after church on Sunday, June 3 and join 

us for our summer student ministry kickoff ! We’ll provide the meat, you provide the sides, and pray that

E Christian Day at the Ballpark Join us June 30 at 1:15 pm when the Cardinals vs. Pirates for Christain Day 

at the Ballpark. Post–game program featuring Cardinal manager, Mike Matheny and Pirates Manager,

E Youth Summer Midweek Club! Join us on June 6, in the Youth Room, as we start up the Summer 

Midweek Club! We meet Wednesday nights at 7pm to hang out, play games, sing songs, and learn from 

the Bible. This summer we will be training in Godliness through a study of the book of Ephesians.

E Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Information Coming! Mark your calendars for June 10! Directly after the worship 

service, there will be a brief session update concerning vision bylaw changes, and timing for a search 

committee. There will also be a Q&A session at a congregational pot luck dinner that evening beginning 

at 5:00 pm, along with a report back from Pastor Stuart’s trip to Israel. The church will provide the meat

E On The Road Again!! The G.O. (Golden Oak) Seniors are taking a carpool trip to Highland, il on Friday, 

June 15. We’ll be meeting at the church at 9:00 am, touring the Victorian home of Pet Milk’s founder, 

attending a concert on a magnifi cent theater organ, and checking out several specialty shops in town. The

E Opportunity For Service On The USA Missions Committee There are openings on the USA Missions 

Committee. This growing committee is expanding and we are looking for a few more members to help 

generate new ideas of how Twin Oaks can be mobilized to reach out into the local community and the 

USA for Christ. Responsibilities include evaluating and considering where God would have us invest our 

time and resources locally for the Gospel, prepare for the USA Missions Fair in October, meet with local 

partners to assess their needs and our resources. Meetings are approximately six-eight times per year. 

Requirements include membership at TOPC, and a willingness to serve. Contact Donna Middendorf, 

Merlin Pierro or Doug Loveall for more information.

E Nursery Coordinator Position Opening The Nursery is now accepting resumes for the Nursery

E The Nursery is Looking to Hire a New Staff Person Experience working with children is preferred. The 

shifts are two Sunday mornings a month and some Wednesday evenings and other special service times. 

The job includes working with our Covenant Children, teaching them about our Savior, and room set up

• A Book Study Holding on to Hope, by Nancy Guthrie, is a true story framing her own story of

• S ummer Book Club The book for the month of June is Silas Marner by George Eliot. It is available on

26th to review the book from a Christian world and life perspective. The book for July will be The 

Help by Kathryn Sockett—in case you want to order both books at the same time. The August book has
