<strong>Georgia</strong> <strong>Study</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Early</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>Education</strong>: <strong>Child</strong> <strong>Care</strong> Center Findings<br />
In closing, <strong>Bright</strong> <strong>from</strong> <strong>the</strong> Start: <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> <strong>Early</strong> <strong>Care</strong> <strong>and</strong> Learning<br />
should be commended for conducting a statewide representative study <strong>of</strong> child<br />
care <strong>and</strong> <strong>Georgia</strong>’s Pre-K. This study provides objective information about <strong>the</strong> range<br />
<strong>of</strong> quality in centers <strong>and</strong> pre-k programs across <strong>the</strong> state. We hope that <strong>the</strong>se study<br />
findings will inform policymakers as <strong>the</strong>y develop strategies <strong>and</strong> make decisions about<br />
investments to maximize <strong>the</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> care for <strong>Georgia</strong>’s young children. Multiple<br />
strategies will likely be needed to improve <strong>the</strong> quality <strong>of</strong> center-based care, such as<br />
continued education, training <strong>and</strong> technical assistance for teachers <strong>and</strong> administrators;<br />
licensing revisions; teacher compensation initiatives; <strong>and</strong> program incentives for<br />
quality improvement. 25 Finally, we hope that <strong>the</strong>se findings will provide important<br />
baseline data <strong>from</strong> which to measure <strong>Georgia</strong>’s future investments in improving <strong>the</strong><br />
quality <strong>of</strong> care for young children.<br />
