CHILDREN’S STORAGE<br />
STORAGE SPACE/BATHROOMS<br />
• Play equipment requiring little adult supervision must be on low open shelves in<br />
classroom.<br />
• Personal storage (coats, personal belongings, etc.) must be accessible (within<br />
reach) <strong>of</strong> children (age 1 yr. and older). Storage should also be large enough to<br />
accommodate <strong>the</strong> size <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> child’s belongings.<br />
• Diaper bags must be out <strong>of</strong> reach <strong>of</strong> children and should be accessible to diaper<br />
changing area.<br />
• Sleeping equipment (mats, cots) can be in classroom, safe <strong>from</strong> children’s access.<br />
• Allow maximum use <strong>of</strong> play space.<br />
TEACHERS’ SUPPLIES<br />
• Must be kept out <strong>of</strong> reach <strong>of</strong> children. (Examples: Teachers’ purses, White-out,<br />
large teacher/adult scissors, staplers.)<br />
HAZARDOUS ITEMS<br />
• First aid supplies, cleaning tools, supplies and medicines must be kept out <strong>of</strong> reach<br />
<strong>of</strong> children in locked area (cabinets, closets, etc.).<br />
BATHROOMS<br />
• Bathrooms must be fully enclosed.<br />
• Bathrooms must have proper ventilation ei<strong>the</strong>r through a screened and operable<br />
window or a functioning exhaust fan.<br />
• If you install any toilet or lavatory <strong>of</strong> adult height that would be used by children in<br />
any room <strong>of</strong> your facility, you must provide steps or a platform.
