This report is one of a number of documents that support the headline strategy, which updates and replaces the ‘County Durham Joint Municipal Waste Management Strategy: Baseline Assessment’ report of August 2005. Following the formation of the Unitary Authority, the current strategy is being reviewed and a number of the other supporting technical reports may be updated or replaced. 1.4 SCOPE OF THE DATA REVIEW Waste Prevention & Reuse DCC JMWMS Action Plans Technical Reports and Options Appraisals The objectives of this review and assessment are: Recycling & Composting Strategic Environmental Assessment Residual Waste Management • to collate waste arisings and material stream data for County Durham including identification of trends over time; ENVIRONMENTAL RESOURCES MANAGEMENT DURHAM COUNTY COUNCIL 4
• to identify the materials and composition of the various waste streams; • to outline the current waste collection services within County Durham and the fate of materials; • to present recent recycling and composting data and provide interpretation of the factors affecting rates; • to detail specific local, regional and national indicators and targets; and • to define a base year to enable further modelling studies to be projected forward and the options of alternative collection scenarios to be appraised.
