Istanbul, Turkey) as a jo<strong>in</strong>t venture with major Turkish cosmetics import and sales distribu<strong>to</strong>r Vesco Kosmetik<br />

Ürünleri Paz. ve Tic. Ltd. Sti. (here<strong>in</strong>after, “Vesco”; located <strong>in</strong> Istanbul, Turkey). <strong>Operations</strong> of <strong>the</strong> new company will<br />

commence from January 2012. With <strong>Shiseido</strong> possess<strong>in</strong>g a majority equity stake <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> jo<strong>in</strong>t venture, <strong>the</strong> company<br />

will become a consolidated subsidiary of <strong>Shiseido</strong> and global brand SHISEIDO prestige cosmetics products<br />

commonly developed worldwide by <strong>Shiseido</strong> will be sold.<br />

Initiatives <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> Overseas Cosmetics Bus<strong>in</strong>ess<br />

<strong>Shiseido</strong> is currently promot<strong>in</strong>g a 10-year roadmap established <strong>in</strong> 2008 with <strong>the</strong> aim of becom<strong>in</strong>g a “global player<br />

represent<strong>in</strong>g Asia with its orig<strong>in</strong>s <strong>in</strong> Japan” by 2017. The overseas sales ratio for <strong>the</strong> previous term (fiscal year ended<br />

March 2011) <strong>in</strong>creased <strong>to</strong> 42.9% and <strong>the</strong> number of countries and regions <strong>in</strong> which <strong>Shiseido</strong> operates its global<br />

bus<strong>in</strong>ess is expand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> 87 countries and regions, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g Japan.<br />

In recent years, <strong>Shiseido</strong> has been promot<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>itiatives <strong>to</strong> streng<strong>the</strong>n its bus<strong>in</strong>ess scheme. Specifically, <strong>the</strong><br />

Company commenced operations by establish<strong>in</strong>g wholly owned sales companies <strong>in</strong> Russia <strong>in</strong> 2008 and Vietnam and<br />

Switzerland <strong>in</strong> 2010, as well as by launch<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>ess operations <strong>in</strong> Greece by establish<strong>in</strong>g a jo<strong>in</strong>t sales company<br />

with a local lead<strong>in</strong>g distribu<strong>to</strong>r <strong>in</strong> 2010. <strong>Shiseido</strong> has devised <strong>the</strong> New Frontier Strategy under its current Three-Year<br />

Plan (April 2011 - March 2014) and is seek<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> streng<strong>the</strong>n its response <strong>to</strong>ward emerg<strong>in</strong>g countries (new markets) as<br />

a means of develop<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> next growth eng<strong>in</strong>e follow<strong>in</strong>g Ch<strong>in</strong>a.


Background <strong>to</strong> Establish<strong>in</strong>g a <strong>Jo<strong>in</strong>t</strong> <strong>Venture</strong><br />

<strong>Shiseido</strong> entered <strong>the</strong> Turkish market <strong>in</strong> 1998 <strong>through</strong> an agreement with Vesco, a distribu<strong>to</strong>r that <strong>the</strong> Company has<br />

formed a partnership at this time. Based on an amicable partnership with <strong>the</strong> company for more than 10 years,<br />

<strong>Shiseido</strong> has been promot<strong>in</strong>g prestige market<strong>in</strong>g similar <strong>to</strong> European markets. As a result, <strong>the</strong> sales network of<br />

<strong>Shiseido</strong> cosmetics products has been expanded <strong>to</strong> approximately 170 s<strong>to</strong>res and has steadily achieved sales growth.<br />

At <strong>the</strong> same time, <strong>in</strong> terms of Turkey’s economy, demand for cosmetics products is expand<strong>in</strong>g due <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

expansion of domestic consumption accompanied by <strong>the</strong> population’s extremely young average age of approximately<br />

29.2 years along with a rise <strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong>come. Consequently, <strong>the</strong> prestige cosmetics market is expected <strong>to</strong> cont<strong>in</strong>ue <strong>to</strong><br />

achieve high growth <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> future. Therefore, <strong>in</strong> order <strong>to</strong> fur<strong>the</strong>r streng<strong>the</strong>n its presence <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> market, <strong>Shiseido</strong><br />

decided <strong>to</strong> establish a jo<strong>in</strong>t venture with Vesco, which has an outstand<strong>in</strong>g proven track record <strong>in</strong> terms of sales<br />

know-how of prestige cosmetics.<br />

Market<strong>in</strong>g Plan<br />

Based on <strong>the</strong> exist<strong>in</strong>g sales network up <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> present, <strong>Shiseido</strong> Turkey will promote <strong>in</strong>itiatives by plac<strong>in</strong>g priority on<br />

expand<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>-s<strong>to</strong>re share. <strong>Shiseido</strong> will also seek <strong>to</strong> bolster its presence at s<strong>to</strong>refronts and <strong>to</strong> enhance <strong>the</strong> quality of<br />

counsel<strong>in</strong>g <strong>through</strong> OMOTENASHI (“spirit of hospitality”) by augment<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> tra<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g of Beauty Consultants, who<br />

are designated as <strong>Shiseido</strong>’s strength. Additionally, promotional efforts will be carried out strategically with <strong>the</strong> aim<br />

of penetrat<strong>in</strong>g brand value and acquir<strong>in</strong>g new regular cus<strong>to</strong>mers. Through <strong>the</strong>se <strong>in</strong>itiatives, <strong>Shiseido</strong> Turkey will aim<br />

<strong>to</strong> achieve double-digit growth or higher on an average growth rate basis, while also striv<strong>in</strong>g <strong>to</strong> quickly establish a<br />
