Dear Members,
Welcome to the Summer 2010 edition of HoofPrint!
HoofPPrriinntt
It has been lovely to see Vine members supporting our rallies over the last few months although we
have noticed that numbers have fallen a little as many of you are now out and about competing.
This supports our view that most of you are keener to attend discipline rallies in the autumn/winter
months in preparation for early shows and events. And many congratulations to those of you who
have enjoyed early successes!
Our programme for the summer reflects this change of emphasis and we are offering relaxed, fun
activities for everyone to pick and choose from. The Pony Club competitive calendar is very full
over the summer and for those who have expressed interest in representing the Vine in teams
(which are open to everyone, at all levels) there will be additional preparation sessions as
necessary. Please make sure that you return your forms to the appropriate discipline organiser so
we know that you are interested!
Preparations for the two summer camps are progressing very well but you do need to apply for a
place! We would hate anyone to miss out and urge you to fill the form in asap. If you have ideas or
input for either camp, please talk to us – we very much want the camps to deliver exactly what
members want and expect. In particular, at East End, we have a great opportunity to develop an
outstanding camp for those not quite ready for the residential Boomerang camp. It will certainly
have a fresh approach – definitely not merely an extension of our previous mini camp – and we
have taken on board feedback from last year’s campers.
Our next event is the ever-popular Open Show at Park Farm, Oakley on Sunday 30 May. There
are classes for everyone – show jumping, showing, fun classes and gymkhana. We are very grateful
to Sally and Julian Small for the use of Park Farm and look forward to joining their Centre
members on the day. The Show is open to all riders 16 and under, whether or not members of a PC
branch or centre. The schedule is on the website at www.pcuk.org/vine

Finally, there are a few changes to the committee to report. Verena Beck has decided to step down
as a member of the committee although I am very pleased to say that she will continue to support
us in various ways. Thank you, Verena, for your contribution to the committee and for your
continuing help! We now welcome Katie Bartlett to the committee. Thank you, Katie for joining
us!
Our Treasurer, Steve Davies, has also decided to step down. The Treasurer role is a very important
one and Steve will remain available to ensure a smooth handover to his successor. If you would
like to help and join the committee as the new Treasurer, please look at the advert elsewhere in this
HoofPrint. A huge thank you to Steve for all his work for the branch.

The Pony Club says ‘Thank You’ to
Maggie
We are delighted to learn that Maggie
Richardson, our previous DC, has been
awarded a prestigious award from The Pony
Club in recognition of her years of service.
She has been awarded a Cubitt Award
which will be presented to her at a special
ceremony in Stratford upon Avon in early
June.
Quoting from main The Pony Club website:
‘The Pony Club acknowledges that volunteers
are the lynchpin of its success and its Cubitt
Awards are a way to honour those that have
passed the landmark of at least twenty years
of voluntary help.
The awards are named after the late Hon Guy
Cubitt, who was the Chairman of The Pony
Club for 25 years and President from 1970 –
1979.
The Cubitt awards are always a special day
for all involved, a great opportunity to give
our volunteers the recognition they deserve.’

Equipment and Clothing
Spurs – Just to remind you that you need
written permission from your DC to wear
spurs at all Pony Club activities and events.
Please let our Chief Instructor Frances know
if you would like this permission and you will
be assessed either by her or an instructor at a
rally. Permission is only given if the rider is
deemed secure enough in his or her position
to use them appropriately and if the
pony/horse really needs them for the activity.
We are always happy to advise!
Skull Caps – It has come to our attention that
some tack shops are happily selling peaked
hats to members wanting to ride cross
country. Whilst the Pony Club accepts these

for competitions of below 0.8m, they
stipulate that “For Cross Country riding (over
fences 0.8m high and above) (tests, rallies or
training), a jockey skull cap, with no fixed
peak, must be worn. It is also strongly
recommended that a jockey skull cap is worn
for cross country riding even over lower
fences.” Do bear this in mind when shopping
for a new hat!
Long sleeved Polos for older members –
Following the details in the last HoofPrint I
am sorry to say that we have been badly let
down by the service we have received from
Cotton Graphics. We are currently looking in
to re-sourcing the items and will keep you
posted if we can get a more reliable source.
Reminder for Competitions – At Pony Club
competitions you must have plain tack and a
plain-coloured numnah. You should wear a
Pony Club tie or stock. Shirts must have
sleeves (when warming up without a jacket)
and must have long sleeves if riding cross
country, when body protectors must be worn.
Your metal membership badge should be
worn on the left lapel of your jacket. Gloves
are compulsory for Dressage. Breeches or
jodhpurs must be white, cream or beige. Long
hair must be tied up and in a hairnet. All
Pony Club rule books are available to
download off the main Pony Club website

Dressage and Vaulting
Demonstration – A further
reminder
An afternoon with a difference! Everyone is
invited to watch a demonstration of vaulting
and dressage test riding at Hurstbourne EC on
Friday 4 June from 4pm.

Hosted by Anne Dicker and Liz Diegutis, you
will have the opportunity to experience a
fantastic display. Members of the vaulting
teams which train at Hurstbourne are in the
GB squad – if you haven’t watched vaulting
before, it adds another dimension to things
you can do with a horse! All aspiring
dressage riders should not miss the
opportunity to watch a top level
demonstration by Liz Diegutis.
New Website
We are about to go live with a new website
redesigned by HQ! You can access it using
the same link www.pcuk.org/vine As I
receive schedules from neighbouring Pony
Clubs and local organisations, I will post a
copy on the ‘schedules’ page. Please keep an
eye on this page as I will not be forwarding
other schedules by email.
I will also have a page for items for sale by
members, so please let me know if you have
any horsy items for sale (any Vine clothing
that is now outgrown?)

Polo Training Rallies
Now that the weather and the ground have
improved we are hoping to resume polo
training rallies on Sunday mornings at Park
Farm, Oakley.
Everybody, however big or small, is very
welcome to come along and have ago – why
not come and see how versatile your pony
can be?!
The first rally is planned for 9 th May at
10.00am.
The charge for each rally is £10 but please
ring Jon Casemore on 07747 880592 by the
preceding Friday to check details and confirm

BOOMERANG CAMP (23/24 – 28 JULY)
Boomerang Camp will cater for our older members who are at least 12 years old and confident enough
to cope with a fully residential camp. It will be held at Boomerang Stables, Chilton Foliat, near
Hungerford, RG17 0TW which has fantastic facilities.
The full cost of the Camp is £300 and a non-returnable deposit of £50 is required with your booking to
