friends. Julie is Program Director with
The New 103.1 Fresh FM in London,
Ontario. Rick Starks (MIA-Recording
Engineering 81) is an engineer in postproduction
at CBC-TV in Toronto. The
end of last year was busy fi nishing up
a pet project he always wanted to do,
producing a record featuring his brother,
jazz musician, Tom Starks.
It was a great night to
celebrate music and
where a music career can

Dale’s wife, Patty Shaw. Dale
is a TV commercial director represented
by Imported Artists in Toronto, Motiv
Films in the US and Mr. Hyde in the UK
and France. He recently completed work
on a spectacular commercial featuring all
the cultural greats for Ontario Tourism
– most readers will know the tune in the
ad from watching Bugs Bunny as a child
- “On with the show, this is it!”
Terry McManus welcomed
the chance to hear all the
news from Geoff Jarvis
(MIA-Recorded Music
Production 94) below at left
and Yurko Mychaluk (MIA-
Recording Engineering 94)
at right. After working around and
about, including a stop in Halifax,
Geoff is happily settled back home in
Kingston, Ontario working as Regional
Manager with Sunrise Records and he’s
also done some band management.
Yurko spent 18 months touring with
Dreamworks recording artist Nellie
Furtado in support of her debut CD
“Whoa, Nellie” which included television
appearances on Jay Leno’s Tonight
Show, Last Call with Carson Daly, and
Rosie O’Donnell. Yurko has recorded and
toured with many independent artists
and he has just launched his own debut
CD entitled Heavy.
ode to 30 years
of bonding
Wow – even after 30 years, I
am still amazed by the strength
of the bond I feel towards
Fanshawe and the teachers.
I have been working in the
industry for many years and
I have seen numerous former
students come through. There is
an instant bond that is formed
with people who have been
through the program.
We shared the same
experience! An experience, I
might add, that I have not been
able to top in all the years since.
I truly hope that current students
stop and smell the roses while
they are there and appreciate
the opportunity they have been
given.
It wouldn’t be possible to write
about Fanshawe without writing
something about the teachers.
It really is quite remarkable that
the core teachers have continued
to teach at Fanshawe as long as
they have. That only comes from
people doing what they love to
do and also caring about the
people they are teaching. Thirty
years look great on you!
