to be a reliable citizen if his educa-<br />
tion has not fitted him to follow<br />

Century quarrelled mightily about<br />
<strong>the</strong> first <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se two aspects <strong>of</strong><br />
education. Every religious denom-<br />
ination had its peculiar views on <strong>the</strong><br />
subject <strong>of</strong> religious training, <strong>and</strong><br />
every one was vastly exercised in<br />
his mind as to what his neighbour's<br />
child ought to be taught in <strong>the</strong><br />
National Public or private school<br />
which it might happen to attend.<br />
What all failed to realize was that<br />

regard to life which a child can only<br />
