This procedure clears he distribution system of non-harmful sedment that may build up over time. The PWC schedules hydrant flushing during ight and early morning hours to create he least impact on our customers. While we are flushing in your neighborood, you may experience decreased water ressure and/or temporary discoloration of our water. If discoloration occurs, customers are dvised to simply run their cold water for a few minutes until it is clear. Customers are ncouraged to check for discolored ater before doing laundry. If customers have questions regardng the flushing program, they hould contact the MPWC ustomer Support Center t (856) 663-0043. The Food Bank of South Jersey ecently announced an innovative partership with local peach farmers to elp the hungry in South Jersey. It’s not commonly known that New ersey, despite the state’s small size, is he fourth largest grower and exporter f peaches in the nation. What’s also ot well known is how many of those eaches are wasted. “There are almost a million good eaches that are not quite perfect nough for retail supermarkets, but hey taste great,” explains Food Bank EO Val Traore. “So we decided to urn them into a shelf stable product.” The result of this new partnership: a each salsa that will be sold as a undraiser for the Pennsauken-based onprofit, a first among food banks that ould possibly become a national odel for other similar organizations. By working with local farmers to resue these peach “seconds,” the Food ank will reduce local landfills, save farmers the cost of discarding the peaches and create a revenue source that will help them purchase more food to feed more people. “Just Peachy Salsa is a win-win for everyone.” says Traore “We’re helping to reduce our environmental footprint, we’re helping farmers save money, we’re giving the public a healthy product and we’re feeding hungry people with the revenue we’ll make.” Traore estimates local farmers will save over $85,000 in dumping fees through this salvage project. To find a partner in this venture, the Food Bank sought out Campbell Soup, a longtime donor of food, money and volunteers to the organization. Says Traore, “We arranged to have the peaches brought to them, pitted and sliced. They took it from there and created a beautiful, healthy product.” Campbell Soup manufactured 52,000 jars of Just Peachy Salsa, which will be sold through retail stores.
