New Transplant Faculty Joins UC New Transplant Fellow<br />

Amit D. Tevar, M.D., has joined the<br />

University of Cincinnati Department<br />

of Surgery in the Division of<br />

Transplant Surgery as Assistant<br />

Professor of Surgery. Dr. Tevar specializes<br />

in kidney, pancreas, and liver<br />

transplantation.<br />

Dr. Tevar received his undergraduate<br />

and medical degree in the combined<br />

BA/MD Program from the<br />

University of Missouri School of<br />

Amit D. Tevar, M.D.<br />

Medicine in Kansas City. He completed<br />

his general surgery residency at the University of Indiana<br />

School of Medicine in Indianapolis. Dr. Tevar completed a fellowship<br />

in Solid Organ Transplant at the University of Chicago<br />

and recently completed a fellowship in Transplantation at the<br />

University of Cincinnati.<br />

Dr. Tevar has engaged in numerous research projects and won the<br />

Specialty Surgery Residents Paper Competition at Indiana<br />

University in 2003 and 2002. His research in "Laparoscopic<br />

Paraesophageal Hernia Repair" led <strong>to</strong> a presentation at the<br />

Annual Society of Laparoscopic Surgery meeting in 2001. Other<br />

research projects led <strong>to</strong> presentations at both local and national<br />

meetings. He won the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Honors<br />

Medical Society <strong>Research</strong> Fellowship Award in 1997, awarded<br />

by a National Committee of AOA Direc<strong>to</strong>rs <strong>to</strong> 25 students nationally<br />

based on academics and quality of research proposal.<br />

Dr. Tevar is a member of the Indiana State Medical Association<br />

and the Indianapolis Medical Society - Resident Section. He was<br />

a University of Missouri-Kansas City delegate <strong>to</strong> the Association<br />

of American Medical Colleges. Dr. Tevar has published articles<br />

in peer-reviewed journals.<br />

Transplant <strong>Research</strong> Fellow is<br />

Accepted in UC Master of Science<br />

Clinical <strong>Research</strong> Training Program<br />

Nicole Weimart, Pharm.D., research fellow in the Division of<br />

Transplant Surgery (see at right) was accepted in<strong>to</strong> the Master of<br />

Science in Clinical <strong>Research</strong> Training Program. She is the first<br />

transplant research fellow trainee <strong>to</strong> enter Dr. Joel Tsevat’s T30<br />

training program for clinical investiga<strong>to</strong>rs. The program is committed<br />

<strong>to</strong> providing trainees an educational program leading <strong>to</strong> a<br />

promising career in clinical research.<br />

Andreas Karachris<strong>to</strong>s, M.D.,<br />

has joined the Division of<br />

Transplant Surgery as a Fellow.<br />

Dr. Karachris<strong>to</strong>s received a Ph.D.<br />

in Genetics from the University of<br />

Crete in Greece, where he also<br />

received his medical degree. He<br />

also spent one year as Honorary<br />

<strong>Research</strong> Associate at the<br />

University of Liverpool & Roy Dr. Andreas Karachris<strong>to</strong>s<br />

Castle Institute for Lung Cancer<br />

<strong>Research</strong> in Liverpool, England. Dr. Karachris<strong>to</strong>s served<br />

his initial residency in general surgery at the University of<br />

Athens, Greece, then moved <strong>to</strong> the United States and was a<br />

surgical resident at Yale University-New Haven Hospital in<br />

New Haven, Connecticut, and at Temple University<br />

Hospital in Philadelphia.<br />

Carolina in Charles<strong>to</strong>n. She<br />

served her General Pharmacy<br />

Practice Residency at New York-<br />

Presbyterian Hospital and the<br />

University Hospital of Columbia<br />

and Cornell in New York, NY.<br />

Jennifer Walker, Pharm.D.,<br />

received her Doc<strong>to</strong>r of Pharmacy<br />

degree from Ferris State<br />

University in Big Rapids, MI. She<br />

served her Pharmacy Practice<br />

Residency at Northwestern<br />

Memorial Hospital, Chicago, IL.<br />

degree from the University of<br />

Wisconsin-Madison School of<br />

Pharmacy. She served her<br />
