ulaanbaatar District Heating company turns 50
ulaanbaatar District Heating company celebrated its 50th
Anniversary in september 2009 and DBDH was invited to honor
the achievements made by the district heating company over the
past 50 years in the coldest capital in the world: ulaanbaatar.
Mr. Hans Bjørn, chairman of DBDH and Mr. Jes B. christensen,
Managing Director, were invited by Mr. Byamba-ochir, general
Manager of ulaanbaatar District Heating company. it was a
three day celebration epitomizing the best of Mongolia from its
cultural heritage in singing, dancing and acrobatics to the unique
and beautiful landscape.
Besides DBDH also cowi, Kamstrup, ABB, Hydro-X and Danfoss
were invited as suppliers to the constant improvement of the
district heating network crucial to the survival of the inhabitants.
with an average temperature of around minus 25 degrees
celsius five months of the year and another two months with
temperatures below zero on average the district heating system
is pivotal.
it became very clear during the visit that Danish district heating
solutions have been essential for uB during the last ten years and
with the opening of a brand new Booster pump station, supplied
by ABB Denmark, during the visit, Danish solutions will also be
the strategic choice securing comfortable, reliable and efficient
district heating in the future.
china District Heating Association and
DBDH takes it up one notch
the members of DBDH in particular ABB, ApV, Broen, Brunata,
cowi, Danfoss, grundfos, Hydro-X, and Kamstrup have for more
than ten years been exploring the opportunities for developing
district heating in china. these 9 companies have for the past
almost ten year’s jointly under the umbrella of DBDH china toured
Zhongguó 4 times a year visiting numerous provinces organizing

seminars, b2b meetings as well as visiting both combined heat
and power plants and heating only plants. it is the long lasting
friendship based on mutual respectful, understanding, and collaboration
from exchanging ideas and solutions with the result of
a more reliable and sustainable urban infrastructure with district
heating as the backbone for both nations.
in conjunction to visiting the neighbour to the north, DBDH
chairman and Managing Director naturally visited Beijing, china.
the purpose of the visit was for the chairman of DBDH Mr. Hans
Bjørn to meet his counterpart Mr. liu Diansheng, chairman of
china District Heating Association.
the history of formal cooperation between DBDH and cDHA dates
back to June 1994. over history the two associations have facili-
tated many exchanges of visits and information sharing. District
heating is both in china and Denmark highly viewed as a solution
ensuring energy security and combating climate change.
the main item on the Agenda for the meeting was chinese par-
ticipation in the international District energy summit: “District
energy - leading the way to copenhagen”, which took place on 3
november 2009 in copenhagen (see pages 22-23). the District
energy summit in november forwarded recommendations on how
district energy enable cities to become sustainable by utilizing
the flexibility and efficiency district energy provide jointly with
combined heat and power systems.
Mr. liu Diansheng joined the conference in november with col-
leagues from the chinese district energy sector, hereunder with
representatives from Beijing District Heating group, the single-
largest district heating system in the world.
other issues of cooperation looking ahead were also discussed and
the two new chairmen quickly learned they have a long history of
great friendship behind them in their relatively new positions.
