<strong>USING</strong> <strong>ICS</strong> <strong>TO</strong> <strong>MANAGE</strong> <strong>SPECIAL</strong> <strong>EVENTS</strong><br />

The following are major responsibilities assigned to the Planning Section Chief:<br />

• Collect and process situation information about the event.<br />

• Supervise preparation of the IAP.<br />

• Provide input to the Incident Commander and Operations Section Chief in preparing the IAP.<br />

• Establish special information collection activities (e.g., weather, environmental, and toxic substances),<br />

as necessary.<br />

• Compile and display event status information, including reporting any significant changes in the status<br />

of the event.<br />

• Assemble information on alternative strategies.<br />

• Provide periodic predictions on event/incident potential.<br />

• Determine the need for any specialized resources in support of the event.<br />

• Reassign out-of-service personnel already onsite to <strong>ICS</strong> organizational positions, as appropriate.<br />

• Oversee preparation of an event/incident demobilization plan.<br />
