4.29 The areas for the storage of viral seed stock must be dedicated and fully secured<br />

against entry by non authorised personnel. For secondary (back-up) seed storage<br />

locations where stocks are not normally used for production, the National<br />

Regulatory Authority may approve storage in leak-proof <strong>containment</strong> containers<br />

within a dedicated freezer with security and access restrictions appropriate for the<br />

storage of <strong>polio</strong>virus.<br />

4.30 The viral seed stock must be inventoried. Addition or removal of material must be<br />

conducted by authorized personnel following the approval of two authorized<br />

signatories on record or the electronic equivalent of this approval. Records of<br />

additions or removal of viral seed must be securely stored.<br />

4.31 The viral seed storage area must be equipped with back-up emergency power source<br />

and recording and alarm systems to monitor freezers.<br />

5. DOCUMENTATION AND VALIDATION<br />

5.1 Detailed records of operating parameters for the <strong>containment</strong> facility should be<br />

produced and maintained for conducting an assessment of the facility performance.<br />
