The tradition continues! Eglin's 27th Annual Gate-To-Gate 4.4 Mile
Run/Walk will be held Monday, May 28, taking off from the start/finish line
at Unity Park at 7:30 a.m. Race participants must be in place by 6:45 a.m.
This great Memorial Day tradition is open to the general public, and all
ages are welcome to participate!
Runners, walkers, and teams are invited to register online at www.active.
com before 10 p.m. on May 18, or in person on May 12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
at the Air Armament Museum (cash only for entry fees). Cost for preregistration
is $22 through May 12, then $27 until May 18, for a maximum
of 2,000 registrants. There will be no registration available race day. Once
registered, participants may pick up their race packets at the Air Force
Armament Museum from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 12, or at The Crossroads
(on Eglin, Bldg. 825) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on May 23 and 24.
Following the race, everyone is invited to enjoy the afterparty at Unity
Park, featuring FREE food and beverages, plus live entertainment with
Jones & Co. and award presentations for top racers in a variety of age
categories! Also, a FREE Kid's Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. for children
ages 5-13, with t-shirts for all participants. (No registration required for
Fun Run.)
All race participants are asked to enter through Eglin's West Gate (from

Aero Club
Orientation Flights
for Singles
The Eglin Aero Club invites all
singles to enjoy a spectacular
45-minute orientation flight
over the Emerald Coast, with
an introduction to flight
fundamentals included. As a part
of the Air Force's Single Airman
Initiative, flights are FREE to all
singles working on Eglin. Singles
are welcome to invite one friend
along at no extra charge. Flights
will be offered by appointment
only on the following days: June
8 and 22, July 13 and 27, August
10 and 24. Just call or stop by
the Aero Club (Bldg. 898 on the
flightline) to schedule your flight.
Certified Flight
Instructors Needed
The Eglin Aero Club is looking
for CFI/CFII/MEI-instructor
pilots qualified to teach new
students. Schedules for these
instructors can be very flexible,
making this a great opportunity
for a part-time or full-time job.

public are welcome and may be
submitted to the Aero Club any
day of the week during operating
hours.
Monthly Safety
Meeting
The Eglin Aero Club's monthly
Safety Meeting is held every
second Thursday at 6 p.m. at
the Eglin Yacht Club on Boatner
Road. This meeting is open to
all pilots, as well as current and
prospective members, for a time
of discussion and information, as
well as being a meeting place for
club members to socialize. This
is an excellent place to check out
the Aero Club and to meet the
staff and the members if you are
new to the area or new to flying.

Break" Program
Active duty Air Force families

aren't limited to just the pages of a book! Outings

way. The fun begins Monday, June 4, opening with
sign-ups for the summer program and special activities,

13th Annual "My
First Tri" Triathlon
Eglin's 13th Annual "My First
Tri" Triathlon will be held
Saturday, June 16 at Postl Point,
with start time at 6:45 a.m.
Participants will tackle a 200
meter swim followed by an 8.5
mile bike ride and finish with
a 2.5 mile run! This popular
event is open to the first 325
registrants. Cost is $50 per
person or $105 per team through
May 14, and $55 person and
$115 per team after that date
through June 14. Packet pickup
for race entrants will take
place June 15, 4-6 p.m. at the
Air Armament Museum. Packet
pick-up the day of the race will
be available at Eglin's East Gate

introductory golf program

Hands-On Boater
Safety Course
By Eglin Outdoor Recreation
Attendance and completion of a Hands-On Boater Safety
Course is required to operate all motorized watercraft
available for rent at Eglin Outdoor Recreation. Classes
are offered Mondays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and
Saturdays and Sundays, 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.
(Holiday weekends excluded.)
The first step required in certification is to complete the
Florida boating course at www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/
Florida.asp and, upon completion, print a copy of the
certificate indicating you have passed the course. Step two
is to present the certificate at Eglin Outdoor Recreation
and register for the Hands-On Boater Safety Course. Cost
is $25 per person. Class size is limited, so participants
are encouraged to sign up early. (Online training must be
completed and certificate printed prior to the Eglin course
date.)
The Hands-On class lasts about 2.5 hours and will include
a limited personal tour of the local waterway, an opportunity
to operate rental boats with an experienced staff member,
instruction on how to enter and exit the marina, and all
the know-how you'll need to be acquainted with boating
in Choctawhatchee Bay and with its unique safety
requirements.
Upon completion of both the online training and the Hands-
On class, an Eglin Outdoor Rec Boater Safety Card valid for
three years will be issued to all class participants. For your
convenience, the Eglin card is also accepted at Hurlburt
Outdoor Recreation and at the Destin Army Recreation
Center.
NOTE: In Florida, anyone born on or after January 1, 1988,
who operates a vessel powered by 10 horsepower or more
must pass an approved boater safety course and have in
his/her possession photographic identification and a boater
safety identification card issued by the Florida Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Commission.

Ticket Lottery
Eglin ITT will kick off its annual
Football Ticket Lottery on June
11 at 8 a.m. Along with New
Orleans Saints home game
tickets, the lottery will include
three Atlanta Falcons games,
against the Dallas Cowboys, New

Champions the New York Giants.
Sales will get underway using
the same type lottery system
used by Ticketmaster. Each
person in attendance will receive
a lottery ticket number, and for
each lottery ticket number called
at 10 a.m., a maximum of 4
tickets/tours will be available to
purchase. Requests for more than
4 tickets will be waitlisted, in case
tickets are still available after the
lottery. A non-refundable deposit
of $50 will be required per ticket

Outdoor Recreation
Destination: Dining
Enjoy a relaxing night of
waterfront dining, arriving and
departing by way of the Bay! On
select evenings, Eglin Outdoor
Recreation offers a leisurely
pontoon boat cruise to and
from local dockside restaurants.
Climb aboard at Postl Point for
departure around 6:30 p.m.,
returning about two hours later.
Cruises this month are scheduled
for May 4 and 25. Possible
dining destinations include
L.J. Schooners in Bluewater
Bay, the Boathouse Landing in
Valparaiso, and Dockside Café
& Oyster Bar in Niceville. Cost
for the cruise is $10 per person.

Canoe & Kayak Intro
Eglin Outdoor Rec will host a
brief introductory course on
the pleasures of paddling a
canoe and a "sit on top" kayak
on Saturday, May 5, 9-11 a.m.
at Postl Point. Students are
presented with basic information
on boat control, paddling
apparel, potential hazards and

simple rescues. An entry level of
paddling skills is presented and
practiced, allowing students to
safely and effectively maneuver
on flat-water. Cost is $5 per
person.
Movies on the Bay
Coming this summer, Eglin
Outdoor Recreation will host
"Movies on the Bay"—FREE
family films shown outside at
Camp Robbins (off Memorial
Trail, across from the BX/
Commissary). Movie nights are
scheduled for May 11, June 8,
July 13, Aug. 10, Sep. 7 and Oct.
19. Showtime begins at sunset,
and all are invited to bring lawn
chairs, blankets, refreshments—
anything needed for your
viewing comfort! All titles will be
family friendly with a G or PG
rating, and will be announced as
show dates approach.
Dog Obedience
Classes

basic, and intermediate dog
obedience curriculum at Eglin
Outdoor Recreation. Puppy
Kindergarten, for puppies 4
months and younger (toy breeds
may be up to 6 months), is
scheduled for May 15-June 19,
with class held on Tuesdays from
4-5 p.m. for a maximum of 8
dogs. Basic Obedience Classes,
for older pups and adult dogs
who have not had prior training,
is scheduled for May 15-June 19,
with class held on Tuesdays from
5-6 p.m. for a maximum of 10
dogs. Intermediate Obedience—
or the Canine Good Citizen
Class for dogs with prior basic
training—is scheduled for May
16-June 20, with class held on
Wednesdays from 5-6 p.m. for a
maximum of 8 dogs. Participants

Swimming Lessons
Swim Lessons at the Eglin Pool
are available throughout the
summer, with two-week sessions
for all ages and skill levels
planned for the following dates:
June 4-15, June 18-29, July 2-13,
July 16-27, July 30-Aug. 10, and
Aug. 13-Aug. 24. Cost is $60
per session. Classes are open to
children and adults. Registration
opens May 12, with sign-ups
available from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at

Registration
The Eglin Youth Center’s
registration for Summer Fun
activities opens at noon on April
30, and will continue during
open hours until all activities
are filled. Class sizes are limited!
Payment for all activities are due
at time of registration unless
otherwise noted. This year's
activities include Tae Kwon Do,
Dance, and Red Cross classes;
Soccer, Baseball, S.N.A.G. and
Disc Golf, Flag Football, Tennis,
Volleyball, Basketball, Archery
and Cheerleading camps;
Abrakadoodle Art camps and
fun days for ages 20 months to

up to $1,000 towards their
higher education expenses for
hours spent volunteering at an
on-base activity! Applications are
