The tradition continues! <strong>Eglin</strong>'s 27th Annual Gate-To-Gate 4.4 Mile<br />
Run/Walk will be held Monday, <strong>May</strong> 28, taking off from the start/finish line<br />
at Unity Park at 7:30 a.m. Race participants must be in place by 6:45 a.m.<br />
This great Memorial Day tradition is open to the general public, and all<br />
ages are welcome to participate!<br />
Runners, walkers, and teams are invited to register online at www.active.<br />
com before 10 p.m. on <strong>May</strong> 18, or in person on <strong>May</strong> 12, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.<br />
at the Air Armament Museum (cash only for entry fees). Cost for preregistration<br />
is $22 through <strong>May</strong> 12, then $27 until <strong>May</strong> 18, for a maximum<br />
of 2,000 registrants. There will be no registration available race day. Once<br />
registered, participants may pick up their race packets at the Air <strong>Force</strong><br />
Armament Museum from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on <strong>May</strong> 12, or at The Crossroads<br />
(on <strong>Eglin</strong>, Bldg. 825) from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on <strong>May</strong> 23 and 24.<br />
Following the race, everyone is invited to enjoy the afterparty at Unity<br />
Park, featuring FREE food and beverages, plus live entertainment with<br />
Jones & Co. and award presentations for top racers in a variety of age<br />
categories! Also, a FREE Kid's Fun Run will begin at 9 a.m. for children<br />
ages 5-13, with t-shirts for all participants. (No registration required for<br />
Fun Run.)<br />

The <strong>Eglin</strong> Aero Club invites all<br />

Meeting<br />
The <strong>Eglin</strong> Aero Club's monthly<br />
Safety Meeting is held every<br />
second Thursday at 6 p.m. at<br />
the <strong>Eglin</strong> Yacht Club on Boatner<br />

all pilots, as well as current and<br />
prospective members, for a time<br />
of discussion and information, as<br />
well as being a meeting place for<br />

13th Annual "My<br />
First Tri" Triathlon<br />
<strong>Eglin</strong>'s 13th Annual "My First<br />
Tri" Triathlon will be held<br />
Saturday, June 16 at Postl Point,<br />
with start time at 6:45 a.m.<br />
Participants will tackle a 200<br />
meter swim followed by an 8.5<br />
mile bike ride and finish with<br />
a 2.5 mile run! This popular<br />
event is open to the first 325<br />
registrants. Cost is $50 per<br />
person or $105 per team through<br />
<strong>May</strong> 14, and $55 person and<br />
$115 per team after that date<br />
through June 14. Packet pickup<br />
for race entrants will take<br />
place June 15, 4-6 p.m. at the<br />
Air Armament Museum. Packet<br />
pick-up the day of the race will<br />
be available at <strong>Eglin</strong>'s East Gate<br />
from 4:45 a.m. until 5:45 a.m. All<br />
non-base ID cardholders must<br />

socialize, or watch TV in a safe<br />
environment while their parent<br />

during all open hours, Mon-Fri,<br />
6 a.m.-8 p.m. For safety, parents<br />

introductory golf program<br />

Ready is a nationwide initiative<br />
by the USGA, PGA, PGA Tour,<br />

Hands-On Boater<br />
Safety Course<br />
By <strong>Eglin</strong> Outdoor Recreation<br />
Attendance and completion of a Hands-On Boater Safety<br />
Course is required to operate all motorized watercraft<br />
available for rent at <strong>Eglin</strong> Outdoor Recreation. Classes<br />
are offered Mondays and Fridays, 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and<br />
Saturdays and Sundays, 9-11:30 a.m. and 1-3:30 p.m.<br />
(Holiday weekends excluded.)<br />
The first step required in certification is to complete the<br />
Florida boating course at www.boatus.org/onlinecourse/<br />
Florida.asp and, upon completion, print a copy of the<br />
certificate indicating you have passed the course. Step two<br />
is to present the certificate at <strong>Eglin</strong> Outdoor Recreation<br />
and register for the Hands-On Boater Safety Course. Cost<br />
is $25 per person. Class size is limited, so participants<br />
are encouraged to sign up early. (Online training must be<br />
completed and certificate printed prior to the <strong>Eglin</strong> course<br />
date.)<br />
The Hands-On class lasts about 2.5 hours and will include<br />
a limited personal tour of the local waterway, an opportunity<br />
to operate rental boats with an experienced staff member,<br />
instruction on how to enter and exit the marina, and all<br />
the know-how you'll need to be acquainted with boating<br />
in Choctawhatchee Bay and with its unique safety<br />
requirements.<br />
Upon completion of both the online training and the Hands-<br />
On class, an <strong>Eglin</strong> Outdoor Rec Boater Safety Card valid for<br />
three years will be issued to all class participants. For your<br />
convenience, the <strong>Eglin</strong> card is also accepted at Hurlburt<br />
Outdoor Recreation and at the Destin Army Recreation<br />
Center.<br />
NOTE: In Florida, anyone born on or after January 1, 1988,<br />
who operates a vessel powered by 10 horsepower or more<br />
must pass an approved boater safety course and have in<br />
his/her possession photographic identification and a boater<br />
safety identification card issued by the Florida Fish and<br />
Wildlife Conservation Commission.<br />

Football Ticket Lottery on June<br />
11 at 8 a.m. Along with New<br />

against the Dallas Cowboys, New<br />
Orleans Saints, and Super Bowl<br />
Champions the New York Giants.<br />

Canoe & Kayak Intro<br />

brief introductory course on<br />
the pleasures of paddling a<br />
canoe and a "sit on top" kayak<br />

at Postl Point. Students are<br />
presented with basic information<br />
on boat control, paddling<br />
apparel, potential hazards and
simple rescues. An entry level of<br />
paddling skills is presented and<br />
practiced, allowing students to<br />
safely and effectively maneuver<br />
on flat-water. Cost is $5 per<br />

up to $1,000 towards their<br />

hours spent volunteering at an<br />
on-base activity! Applications are<br />
