daughter <strong>of</strong> Jonathan Hall <strong>of</strong> Pomfret, Conn. <strong>The</strong>ir son Henry died in<br />

infancy (?).<br />

1550. Samuel Ward, bom May i, 1786, died November 27, 1839; married, Octo-<br />

ber, 181 2, Julia R., daughter <strong>of</strong> Benjamin Cutler <strong>of</strong> Jamaica Plain, Mass.<br />

Children: Samuel; Julia, married Dr. Samuel G. Howe; Frances Maria;<br />

Ann W., married ,4. Milliard; Louisa, married (i) Thomas Crawford,<br />

sculptor, and (2) L. Terry.<br />

1551. Anne Catharine Ward, born August 19, 1788, died September 14, 1837,<br />

unmarried.<br />

1552. Phebe Ward, bom July 17, 1791, died April 22, 1825.<br />

1553. Richard Ray Ward, bom November 17, 1795, married, November 3, 1835,<br />

Gertrude Eliza, daughter Edward Doughty <strong>of</strong> New York, died May 21, 1859,<br />

Children: Gertrude, Ray, and Annie Katrina.<br />

1554. John Ward, bom October 26, 1797, died March 21, 1866, unmarried.<br />

1555. William Greene Ward, born August 7, 1802, died July 22, 1848, married<br />

Abby Maria, daughter Jonathan Hall <strong>of</strong> Pomfret, Conn. ; had son, General<br />

Wm. Greene Ward, who had Charles Henry, Colonel John, Catharine, and<br />

Prescott Hall Ward.<br />

John') was bom June 15, 1762. She married, November 7, 1786, her<br />

cousin, Colonel William Greene. (For children's record, see No. 703.)<br />

708. RAY * GREENE " '<br />

<strong>of</strong> Coweset ' (William ' , William * , Samuel ^<br />

John % John'), eldest son, was born at Warwick, February 2, 1765. He<br />

married, July 23, 1794, Mary Magdalen, daughter <strong>of</strong> George and Mary<br />

Magdalen (Henderson) Flagg, born June 14, 1773, died July 21, 1817. She<br />

was the granddaughter <strong>of</strong> James and Mary Magdalen (Souchet) Henderson<br />

<strong>of</strong> Charleston, S. C. " Hon. Ray Greene <strong>of</strong> Coweset," <strong>of</strong> Yale College, 1784,<br />

was U. S. Senator from 1797-1801. He was appointed Judge <strong>of</strong> the U. S.<br />

Circuit Court by President Adams. <strong>The</strong> appointment was <strong>with</strong>held by the<br />

Jefferson administration. He died January i, 1849. He was the son <strong>of</strong><br />

Hon. Wm. Greene (2d), Governor <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rhode</strong> <strong>Island</strong>.<br />

1556. George Flagg, born September 20, 1795, died at St. Mary's, Ga., December<br />

16, 1 82 1, unmarried.<br />

1557. William, bom January i, 1797, married Abigail B. Lyman.<br />

1558. Catharine Ray, bom July 18, 1799, married Dr. James V. Ttirner.<br />

1559. Mary Elizabeth, born February 21, 1804, died young.<br />

1560. Isabella Mary, born February 22, 1805, married Joseph S. Jenckes.
