1 INTRODUCTION
WP7 and WP8 are developing an outreach strategy to attract associated partners to the OpenUp! project.
One part of this is to provide information to possible new partners, which help them understand the aims
and means of the project and assist in dealing with the organisational steps and setting up the technological
requirements to become an associated partner.
2 GENERAL INFORMATION FOR NEW PROVIDERS
The new providers information package consists of information and documents that have been produced or
updated for the purpose of giving (potential) new providers the most important information they need. The
package is a set of interlinked websites that provide information and link to documents. The main entry page
is accessible on the Helpdesk Homepage or at http://openup.helpdesk.africamuseum.be/AssociatedPartners
There the new/potential content provider can find (see Fig. 1):
- How to become an OpenUp! Associated Partner,
- What benefits the project offers to its content providers,
- What the criteria are to become an OpenUp! Associated Partner.
That information is taken from D19/ C7.3.4 Standard procedure for associated partners operational, as well
as C7.3.1 List of criteria and benefits to become Open Up! associated partners established. For more
information we re-used the categories of user groups from D11 /C7.2.3 Enriched + checked existing
documentation in orig. language (website). We provide dedicated access to specific documentation for each
of the user groups:

3 SPECIAL INFORMATION, EXAMPLE: SCIENTISTS
The information for the new providers is made available in different areas of the page. There is an
introductory paragraph and several boxes which link to relevant documentation. As an example, the page for
Scientists at http://helpdesk.open-up.eu/scientists is shown in Figure 2.
The documents provided below are meant to give scientists in the natural history domain the most
important information about the OpenUp! project, technical aspects, as well as the organisational workflows
to provide content from the institution to Europeana and GBIF.
In the box ‘Key documents’ users find documentation and an introductory article about the project from a
scientific e-journal. The ‘Important links’ relate to the OpenUp! newsletter, a list of natural history museums
and botanical gardens providing content via OpenUp! and a link to the OpenUp! content in Europeana.
Further links are given to the GBIF Data Portal, the BioCASE Europe Site and the EDIT Collection Data Portal.
They provide additional insight and promote the use of BioCASe.
In ‘Next steps’ information is given how to get in contact with the OpenUp! Helpdesk.

4 OUTLOOK AND UPDATING THE NEW PROVIDERS INFORMATION
PACKAGE
In the first two years of the project a lot of information has been generated, and the Work Packages 7 and 8
have been busy in checking which of this information is important for possible new content providers. The
information system on the helpdesk described in this component, the New Providers Information Package,
makes this information accessible in an easy and usable way. In the OpenUp! project much more information
has been and will be generated, this information will find its way into the new providers information package
as well, if relevant. Most of the information will become part of the OpenUp! documentation.
The new providers information package will help in the outreach campaign to attract additional associated
partners for the OpenUp! project. We suggest to have a link directly from the home page of the project to
this new providers information package.
