The Board of School Trustees met in regular session at 6:00 p.m. on this date at the<br />

Administration Building, 202 S. Keeley Street, <strong>Edinburgh</strong>, IN 46124 with Mrs. Hamm presiding.<br />

Mr. Lollar and Mr. Hardin were absent.<br />

Also attending were Pam Streeval, Ron Streeval, Leah Streeval, Nakia Lucas, Misty Lucas, Skyler<br />

Lucas, William Lucas, Shannon Carman, Blythe Carman, Clara Carman, Jami Guiliani, Kathy<br />

Diseroad-Watts, Bill Watts, Addie Diseroad-Watts, Erin Watts, Lou Ellen Watts, Brandy Hyatt,<br />

Tim Jordan, Julie Sizemore, Amanda Roberts, Greg Roberts, Katie Roberts, Traci Foltz, Josh<br />

Edwards, Kevin Rockey, Andrea Perry, Dr. William A. Glentzer, Tammy Lewis, and Susan Ingels.<br />

Everyone was led in prayer by Mrs. Weddle and the Pledge of Allegiance by Mrs. Hamm.<br />

PRESENTATIONS<br />

A. Building Reports<br />

Mrs. Andrea Perry, East Side Elementary Principal, stated things are going really well at East<br />

Side Elementary. Prior to spring break third (3 rd ), fourth (4 th ) and fifth (5 th ) grade students<br />

visited the Atterbury Dental Clinic. Our students had a great time. They toured the facility and<br />

learned about dental care. The fourth (4 th ) grade class presented a wax museum for the whole<br />

student body at East Side. It was a good experience for the fourth (4 th ) graders to practice their<br />

presentation skills. The PRIDE trip for the month of March was to the Indianapolis Zoo. The<br />

winner of the East Side Spelling Bee was Braden Whitis, a fourth (4 th ) grade student from Mrs.<br />

Storie’s class. Braden will represent East Side at the Johnson County Spelling Bee on April 23,<br />

2013. East Side Elementary held their first Mother/Son Movie Night on Friday evening and it<br />

was well attended.<br />

Mr. Josh Edwards, <strong>Edinburgh</strong> Middle School Principal, stated he would like to thank the<br />

custodians and maintenance staff for all the work they did over Spring Break. Everything<br />

looked clean and in good shape. Mr. Edwards stated the Middle School is getting ready for<br />

their second round of ISTEP.


B. Recognition of Middle School Students of the Month<br />

Mr. Edwards presented the April Students of the Month: Nakia Lucas for 6 th grade, Christin<br />

Duhammell for 7 th grade, and Blythe Carman for 8 th grade. Mr. Edwards thanked the students<br />

for all of their hard work and their parents for their support and setting high expectations for<br />

their students.<br />

C. Recognition of East Side Elementary Regional Science Fair Participants –<br />

Mrs. Perry introduced two students who participated in the regional science fair: Katie Roberts<br />

and Addie Diseroad-Watts. Katie and Addie received a certificate for organization and clarity at<br />

the regional level for their project titled “Electric Lips”. Katie and Addie gave a presentation of<br />

their project which was to see which lipstick lasted longer: long lasting lipstick or regular<br />

lipstick. Their results were regular lipstick lasted longer than long lasting lipstick.<br />

D. Recognition of High School Students’ Academic and Athletic Awards<br />

Mr. Kevin Rockey, <strong>Edinburgh</strong> High School Principal, stated, with the conference trophy in hand,<br />

the Academic Team won the conference academic meet for the first time. In other<br />

achievements, Jennifer Stinson received All State Academic Team and All Conference for Girls<br />

Basketball this season. Caleb Giles received All County, All Area, All-Star Team and All<br />

Conference for Boys Basketball. Mr. Rockey introduced Trent Tatlock, who is a senior at<br />

<strong>Edinburgh</strong> High School and one of our outstanding students. Trent has a long list of<br />

accomplishments: For football he was All-State Academic Team, All Johnson County, All Area<br />

for the Columbus Republic, the National Football Foundation Scholar Athlete Award. Trent<br />

attends classes at Franklin College in addition to the high school classes he takes. Trent just<br />

received the Eugene Cato Scholarship from IHSAA which only twelve (12) students in the state<br />

receive. Trent also is an Indiana Star and an Indiana Academic All Star. He has also received All<br />

Conference for basketball, and is a member of the Academic Team. Trent attended the Lugar<br />

Symposium. Trent was one (1) of two (2) students in the county to win the Lilly Scholarship<br />

which is a four (4) year full scholarship to any University in Indiana. Mr. Rockey wanted to take<br />

this time to recognize Trent as an outstanding student, athlete, and a great young man.<br />

PUBLIC COMMENTS REGARDING AGENDA ITEMS<br />

Mrs. Hamm invited public comments regarding agenda items. There were no public comments.


NEW BUSINESS<br />

A. Consent Agenda<br />

1. <strong>Minutes</strong> of the March 11, 2013 and March 27, 2013 Meetings<br />

2. Claims for Payment – Claims # 3736 through and including #3841 and payroll dates of<br />

March 22, 2013 and April 5, 2013.<br />

3. Personnel – Recommendation to approve the resignation of Miriam Rooks,<br />

Corporation ECA Treasurer, effective March 15, 2013; recommendation to approve<br />

the resignation of Roger Records, Maintenance, effective May 31, 2013;<br />

recommendation to approve resignation of Niki Bobzien, East Side Elementary<br />

Intermediate Reading Interventionist, at the end of the 2012 – 2013 school year (June<br />

3, 2013); recommendation to approve the resignation of Casey Ernstes, East Side<br />

Elementary first (1 st ) Grade Teacher, effective June 7, 2013; recommendation to<br />

approve the resignation of Cole Zook, <strong>Edinburgh</strong> Middle/High School Cross Country<br />

Coach effective April 4, 2013; recommendation to approve the retirement of Marie<br />

Records, East Side Elementary Instructional Assistant, effective May 31, 2013;<br />

recommendation to approve Brad Rooks as Assistant Athletic Director for the spring<br />

2013 sports season. Brad would receive one third (1/3) of the Assistant Athletic<br />

Director’s pay; recommendation to transfer to Julie Sizemore from Middle School<br />

Special Education Assistant to Corporation ECA Treasurer effective April 9, 2013;<br />

transfer of Brandy Hyatt from East Side Elementary Kindergarten Teacher to East Side<br />

Elementary Pre-School Teacher effective July 31, 2013; transfer of Tim Jordan from<br />

<strong>Edinburgh</strong> Middle School/High School Athletic Director to <strong>Edinburgh</strong> High School<br />

Health and Physical Education Teacher effective July 31, 2013.<br />

4. Donations – $200 from United Industrial and Welding to Varsity Girls Softball;<br />

overhead projector from Hampton Inn to <strong>Edinburgh</strong> Community School Corporation.<br />

5. Series 2013 Bond Affidavit for Payment - $6,970.00 to Standard and Poors for cost of<br />

issuance of 2013 Bond; $5,500.00 to Hilliard Lyons for underwriters expense;<br />

$2,250.00 to Bank of New York for administration fee; $5,648.30 to London Witte<br />

Group for statement preparation and lease report preparation; $10,656.00 to<br />

Shanahan and Shanahan LLP for legal services; $4,500.00 to Larry Gesse Attorney P.C.<br />

for legal services.<br />

6. Summer School at <strong>Edinburgh</strong> High School – Recommendation to approve summer<br />

school for twenty (20) days for credit recovery class to be held at <strong>Edinburgh</strong> High<br />

School.<br />

7. 2013 – 2014 School Breakfast and Lunch Prices – Recommendation to increase the<br />

school breakfast price for students and adults by .05 and the school lunch prices for<br />

students and adults by .10 beginning August 1, 2013 and increase ala carte prices.


This is needed for the mandated nutrition changes for next school year. Please see<br />

attached recommendation for further details.<br />

Mrs. Taulman moved and Mrs. Weddle seconded a motion to approve the consent agenda as<br />

presented to the Board. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no.<br />

B. Administrators’ contracts<br />

Mrs. Taulman moved and Mrs. Weddle seconded a motion to extend the contract of Mrs.<br />

Andrea Perry, Principal from September 7, 2014 to June 30, 2015 to make a two (2) year<br />

contract from July 1, 2013; Mr. Kevin Rockey, Principal, and Mr. Josh Edwards, Principal from<br />

July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2015. There was no further discussion. Motion passed 3 yes, 0 no.<br />

C. East Side Elementary Pre-School Presentation<br />

Mrs. Perry gave a presentation on the pre-school program for the 2013 – 2014 school year.<br />

Mrs. Perry stated there would be no fees or costs to the students who attend our pre-school.<br />

The pre-school is open only to students who live within the <strong>Edinburgh</strong> Community School<br />

Corporation’s district. The pre-school will follow our school calendar. All of the students will<br />

have a student identification number which will follow them throughout their school career. All<br />

students will be potty trained children ages 3 – 4. We will have a morning and an afternoon<br />

group with a maximum of twenty (20) students per group. Children 4 years old, who will be<br />

enrolling in kindergarten the following year, will receive first priority, and we will prioritize<br />

enrollment for the 2 nd year with students who attended the previous year. The pre-school will<br />

follow Indiana academic standards with the Department of Education with a two (2) year<br />

rotation with a themed calendar.<br />

D. <strong>Edinburgh</strong> Community School Corporation Project Up-Date<br />

Dr. Glentzer gave an update on the <strong>Edinburgh</strong> Community High School Locker Room<br />

Addition/Renovation. Dr. Glentzer stated in order to have the locker room addition /<br />

renovation completed by October 15, 2013 we need to schedule a special meeting for May 6,<br />

2013. At that meeting the Board can approve the final plans for the Locker Room Addition and<br />

Renovation / Weight Room Renovation (project “A”) and put the project out for bids. We will<br />

need to have a Board meeting on June 10, 2013 to award the construction contract for project<br />

“A”. Also, at the June 10, 2013 meeting we can approve the final plans for the athletic fields<br />

(project “B”) and obtain approval to put that project out for bids. Dr. Glentzer presented a<br />

schematic of project “A” that has been reviewed by the administration, coaches and staff. If


the Board sees anything in the schematic that needs changed, it needs done so before the<br />

May 6, 2013 meeting.<br />

Consensus of the Board was to hold the special meeting for May 6, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. The<br />

regular Board meeting for May will be on May 20, 2013, at 6:00 p.m., and to combine the<br />

special meeting and the regular June meeting on June 10, 2013 at 6:00 p.m.<br />

OLD BUSINESS<br />

There was no old business.<br />

PUBLIC COMMENTS<br />

Ron Streeval thanked Tim Jordan for all the work he put in as the Middle School/High School<br />

Athletic Director. Mr. Streeval hoped Mr. Jordan would help with whoever is taking his place.<br />

ADDITIONAL ITEMS<br />

There were no additional items.<br />

BOARD INPUT<br />

Mrs. Weddle congratulated the students of the month, and said she always enjoys hearing the<br />

building reports. Mrs. Weddle also stated she is excited about the new pre-school at East Side<br />

Elementary.<br />

Mrs. Taulman congratulated the students of the month, and said she has talked to students<br />

who have been students of the month in the past, and they are so excited and proud to receive<br />

this award. Mrs. Taulman stated academically, it is very important to get the kids off to an early<br />

start and she is excited about the pre-school program at East Side Elementary. Mrs. Taulman<br />

congratulated the <strong>Edinburgh</strong> High School Academic Team for their conference win. Mrs.<br />

Taulman thanked Addie and Katie for presenting their Science Fair project; she found it very<br />

interesting.<br />

Mrs. Hamm welcomed Julie Sizemore to her new position as Extra-Curricular Treasurer. Mrs.<br />

Hamm congratulated the students of the month and their families.<br />

Mrs. Taulman made the motion to adjourn the meeting at 6:32 p.m. Mrs. Weddle seconded.<br />
