to a basketball game and support our boys’ and girls’ teams. It is worth the price of admission
just to see our very spirited student section in action! All of our winter athletic teams are having

The beginning of a new year is full of promise and excitement, making us feel optimistic

Spanish Honor Society Inducts 29 Students

The Spanish Honor Society, Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica, is a national organization that
recognizes high school achievement in Spanish that promotes a continuity
of interest in Hispanic Studies. To be eligible for membership, students in
grades 10-12 must have completed Spanish 3 or higher with a GPA of 3.5
overall and a 3.5 GPA in Spanish courses. Ms. Brown recently chartered
the Benito Juarez chapter of this organization at Oakdale High School, with
29 inductees this year.
The students will celebrate their initiation to this honor society on the
evening of January 9th, with a ceremony in the auditorium. OHS senior
Nick Riley will play a piano solo at the event and Mr. DeWayne Cash,
FCPS Curriculum Specialist for World Languages, will be a guest speaker.
During the spring semester, the Sociedad Honoraria Hispanica is planning to offer peer
tutoring during SET in addition to other service and social activities.
