4- Full membership to Nana Agyeman Badu, <strong>sacral</strong> <strong>rule</strong>r of<br />

Dormaa Ahenkro in 1969<br />

A l<strong>and</strong>mark resolution in <strong>the</strong> long <strong>and</strong> ongoing struggle between <strong>the</strong> Presbyterian<br />

<strong>Church</strong> of Ghana <strong>and</strong> Akan <strong>sacral</strong> <strong>rule</strong> was passed when <strong>the</strong> members of<strong>the</strong> head office<br />

of <strong>the</strong> church on December 13, 1969, acknowledged <strong>Christian</strong> Agyeman Badu's satus<br />

<strong>and</strong> gave him full membership with <strong>the</strong> freedom to participate in <strong>the</strong> sacraments <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

possibility of occupying a spiritual leadership position in <strong>the</strong> <strong>Christian</strong> church. 662 He<br />

had benn a missionary teacher before his enthronement on April 12, 1950. At <strong>the</strong><br />

Presbyterian Synod in Dormaa Ahenkro in 1972, Nana Osagyefo Agyeman Badu<br />

welcomed <strong>the</strong> delegates, <strong>and</strong> promised to provide l<strong>and</strong> for church work. He appreciated<br />

<strong>the</strong> cordial relationship between <strong>the</strong> church <strong>and</strong> chieftaincy. He was also glad that<br />

traditional drums could now be used in church services, <strong>and</strong> that members were<br />

allowed to take part in customs which did not involve non-<strong>Christian</strong> worship. He<br />

expressed personal appreciation for his admission to full membership. The Moderator,<br />

in reply, expressed appreciation for <strong>the</strong> magnificent welcome <strong>and</strong> hospitality given to<br />

<strong>the</strong> synod. He hoped <strong>the</strong> Dormaahene's determination to be admitted to <strong>the</strong> Lord's<br />

Table would be an example to o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Christian</strong> <strong>rule</strong>rs. Synod accepted with gratitude his<br />

promise to release l<strong>and</strong> for agriculture. He was elected member of<strong>the</strong> Synod committee<br />

dealing with "<strong>Church</strong> <strong>and</strong> culture" toge<strong>the</strong>r with Nana Addo Dankwa III of Akropong<br />
