Dear Students,
Hello again <strong>from</strong> the University of Leeds! This email contains further information to help you prepare
for your arrival in Leeds, as well as a link to the full International Welcome Week programme of
events. If you lose or delete this email, it can be downloaded <strong>from</strong> our website along with all the

Arrival in Leeds
Try not to arrive in Leeds late at night. If you plan to do so, make sure you contact the
Accommodation <strong>Office</strong> directly at accom@leeds.ac.uk or 00441133437777 to ensure you will be
able to get into your room. If you arrive late at night unexpectedly, and have any problems, you can
contact the University of Leeds’ 24-hour security office on 00441133435494 <strong>from</strong> a non-UK mobile
or 0113 3435494 <strong>from</strong> a UK phone.
When you arrive in Leeds, we recommend you go straight to your accommodation and settle in.
Then you should come along to the International Student Information Point in the Michael Sadler
Building (number 78 on the Campus Map) between 9AM and 5PM to collect a welcome pack and to
book an arrival briefing. A member of our welcome team will talk to you about Leeds and the
University, and will answer any questions that you have.

International Welcome Week: Orientation Events
International Welcome Week runs <strong>from</strong> Monday 10 th – Sunday 16 th September. This is followed by
Freshers’ Week, <strong>from</strong> 17 th –23 rd September. Freshers’ Week is for all new students, and most UK
students will arrive during this week.

You don’t need to print this as there will be a copy in your welcome pack when you arrive.

The University English Language Test
This is obligatory for non-native speakers of English. Your level will be assessed so that we can offer
you support classes in academic English if you need them. You cannot fail the test, so don’t panic!

Please see the Welcome Programme for all available dates and times, and make sure you arrive 10
minutes before the start time.
If you have applied to take the module ELU 1002 (English for Communication) or ELU 2002 (English
for Academic <strong>Study</strong>) then you must attend the test on Thursday 20 th September at 09:30am, in the
Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre (downstairs in the Michael Sadler Building, number 78 on the
Campus Map). Students wishing to take one of these modules should indicate this by writing
‘English for Communication’ or ‘English for Academic <strong>Study</strong>’ on the front of the test paper and your
University email address.
