for your arrival in Leeds, as well as a link <strong>to</strong> the full Internati<strong>on</strong>al Welcome Week programme of<br />

Arrival in Leeds<br />

Try not <strong>to</strong> arrive in Leeds late at night. If you plan <strong>to</strong> do so, make sure you c<strong>on</strong>tact the<br />

Accommodati<strong>on</strong> <str<strong>on</strong>g>Office</str<strong>on</strong>g> directly at accom@leeds.ac.uk or 00441133437777 <strong>to</strong> ensure you will be<br />

able <strong>to</strong> get in<strong>to</strong> your room. If you arrive late at night unexpectedly, and have any problems, you can<br />

c<strong>on</strong>tact the University of Leeds’ 24-hour security office <strong>on</strong> 00441133435494 <str<strong>on</strong>g>from</str<strong>on</strong>g> a n<strong>on</strong>-UK mobile<br />

When you arrive in Leeds, we recommend you go straight <strong>to</strong> your accommodati<strong>on</strong> and settle in.<br />

Then you should come al<strong>on</strong>g <strong>to</strong> the Internati<strong>on</strong>al Student Informati<strong>on</strong> Point in the Michael Sadler<br />

Building (number 78 <strong>on</strong> the Campus Map) between 9AM and 5PM <strong>to</strong> collect a welcome pack and <strong>to</strong><br />

book an arrival briefing. A member of our welcome team will talk <strong>to</strong> you about Leeds and the<br />

University, and will answer any questi<strong>on</strong>s that you have.<br />

Internati<strong>on</strong>al Welcome Week: Orientati<strong>on</strong> Events<br />

Internati<strong>on</strong>al Welcome Week runs <str<strong>on</strong>g>from</str<strong>on</strong>g> M<strong>on</strong>day 10 th – Sunday 16 th September. This is followed by<br />

Freshers’ Week, <str<strong>on</strong>g>from</str<strong>on</strong>g> 17 th –23 rd September. Freshers’ Week is for all new students, and most UK<br />

students will arrive during this week.<br />

You d<strong>on</strong>’t need <strong>to</strong> print this as there will be a copy in your welcome pack when you arrive.<br />

The University English Language Test<br />

This is obliga<strong>to</strong>ry for n<strong>on</strong>-native speakers of English. Your level will be assessed so that we can offer<br />

you support classes in academic English if you need them. You cannot fail the test, so d<strong>on</strong>’t panic!


Please see the Welcome Programme for all available dates and times, and make sure you arrive 10<br />

minutes before the start time.<br />

If you have applied <strong>to</strong> take the module ELU 1002 (English for Communicati<strong>on</strong>) or ELU 2002 (English<br />

for Academic <str<strong>on</strong>g>Study</str<strong>on</strong>g>) then you must attend the test <strong>on</strong> Thursday 20 th September at 09:30am, in the<br />

Rupert Beckett Lecture Theatre (downstairs in the Michael Sadler Building, number 78 <strong>on</strong> the<br />

Campus Map). Students wishing <strong>to</strong> take <strong>on</strong>e of these modules should indicate this by writing<br />

‘English for Communicati<strong>on</strong>’ or ‘English for Academic <str<strong>on</strong>g>Study</str<strong>on</strong>g>’ <strong>on</strong> the fr<strong>on</strong>t of the test paper and your<br />

University email address.<br />
