CHOIR - Congratulations to the 65 students from TWHS Choir who participated in the second round of All-State Choir Auditions on Saturday, October 29. 57 students from TWHS were selected to be in the Region Choir. 37 earned membership in the All-Region Mixed Choir, and 19 in the All-Region Treble Choir. These students will rehearse and perform with the All-Region Choirs on November 18-19. They will perform a concert on November 19 at 6:00 p.m. at The Woodlands United Methodist Church. The Third round of All-State Choir auditions will be held on November 29, at TWHS. Twenty-Four students from TWHS Choir will be competing in that round. A full list of the All-Region Choir members is available on www.twhschoir.com On Thursday, November 10, a large group of 10-12 grade choir members will be attending High School Night at the Opera. We will leave TWHS and ride two school buses downtown. The cost of the bus and the ticket have been provided. We have contacted Spaghetti Warehouse, and they can provide a meal for
our group for approximately $19 per person. Students will need to commit to participating in the meal, and bring their money by Tuesday, November 1. On Tuesday, November 8, the TWHS Choirs will present a Broadway Night. This special event features 16 selected acts who will perform songs from shows such as Wicked, Les Mis, Fame, and other Broadway shows. This is a ticketed event. Tickets are $10 each, and may be purchased from TWHS Choir members. The ticket price includes the show and a dessert at intermission. Ticket profits help choir members earn money toward their choir trip costs or fees. ATTENTION SENIORS - If you qualify for the Distinguished Achievement Program NOW is the time to submit your application to the College and Career Center. This recognition is excellent for your resume and college applications. The application can be found in the document library of Family Connection. Students who qualify have completed at least three years of the same foreign language and met four Advanced Measures. Advanced Measures can be: National Merit Commended Scholar or higher, National Hispanic Scholar, National Achievement Scholar; A score of 3 or above on AP examinations; a grade of 80 or higher in Dual Credit courses; Science Fair Project; or original research project. If you are unsure whether you qualify as a Distinguished Achievement Scholar or Candidate, please see your counselor for more information. GOLF NEWS - The Lady Highlanders went to April Sound Country Club on October 31 to compete in Montgomery High School’s Lady Bear Invitational. TWHS came home with third-place medals. Leading the way was Carley Charbonneau with a round of 91. Also contributing were Cassie Lidisky (93), Sarah Daniels (100), and Hannah Wallis (103). Their team total was 387 and good for the bronze medals. The Highlanders went to Raven Nest Golf Club on Wednesday, November2, to compete in the Huntsville High School Invitational. When the totals were posted, the Highlanders came away with a one-stroke victory and the gold medals. Peyton Sherman lead the Highlanders by capturing the individual gold medal with a round of 79, followed by his winning teammates: Weston Bruce (83), Dylan Boster (86), Ian Crowley (91), and Alex Fruci (102). Their team total was 337 and good for a one-stroke victory over the host Huntsville Hornet team. Also competing were the Highlander B Team lead by Brittain Sherman’s 95. Others contributing were Courtlin Sherman (99), Chase Almaguer (101), Sam Wagner (107), and Tom Leonard (107). The B Team total was 402. The Highlanders took first, third, and seventh places at the District 14-5A Fall Warm-Up at Oakhurst Golf Club on Friday-Saturday, November 4-5. The Highlander A Team were the tournament champions, posting a two-day score of 589 (287-302) and a ten-stroke victory over Lufkin. Leading the way for the Highlanders was John Krapf’s 147 (75-72), followed by Mike Durio’s 148 (74-74), Diego Trevino’s 150 (71-79), and Kyle Southard’s 159 (82-77). Fred Wedel also contributed on the first day with an impressive 5-under par round of 67. The bronze medals went to the Highlander B Team with a team total of 610 (306-304). The Highlander B Team was lead by co-runner-ups Fernando Cruz’s 146 (75-71) and Chester Wang’s 146(74-72). Others contributing were Alex Myers’ 160 (83-77) and Michael Chen’s 163 (79-84). Andrew Ertel also contributed on the first day with a round of 78. The Highlander C Team came in seventh place, lead by Mason Raine’s 152 (79-73). Others contributing were David Schack’s 158 (76-82), Davis Rhodes’ 161 (81-80), and Chad Hutchins’ 172 (88-84). Sean Foley also contributed a round of 84 on the first day.
