CHEERLEADERS - All 71 cheerleaders participated in charity walks the past two weekends. Thank<br />

you ladies for volunteering your Saturday to walk to cure Diabetes and ALS. <strong>The</strong> varsity cheerleaders<br />

also had the opportunity to cheer at <strong>The</strong> Conservatory last Wednesday. <strong>The</strong> girls enjoyed visiting with<br />

the residence and spreading the <strong>High</strong>lander spirit.<br />

FFA NEWS - Congratulations to the following TWHS FFA Leadership teams on their performance at<br />

District contest. <strong>The</strong> Greenhand Quiz Team placed 6th Place Overall. <strong>The</strong> team was made up of Dayna<br />

Lawrence (3rd individual), Lauren Thomason and Lauren Dearsman. Taylor Stankevitz was 4 th in the<br />

Job Interview competition. Also competing was the Senior Quiz of Taylor Stankevitz, Sam Taylor,<br />

Hannah Parks and Logan Jones and the Radio Broadcasting team of Sam Taylor, Hannah Parks and<br />

Mason Sartin.<br />

HIGHLANDER BASEBALL - <strong>The</strong> <strong>High</strong>lander Baseball Team had three seniors sign National Letters<br />

of Intent on Wednesday. Congratulations to: Lance Miles (Kansas State), Kevin McCanna (Rice<br />

University) and Clayton Davis (Texas A & M, Corpus Christi).<br />

LADY HIGHLANDER VOLLEYBALL - Congratulations to the Lady <strong>High</strong>lander volleyball program<br />

for another successful season. As a program we went 91-20. <strong>The</strong> Freshmen Green and JV won district<br />

and the JV finished undefeated for the season at 26-0. <strong>The</strong> Varsity finished third in district and advanced<br />

to the Area playoff match where their season ended. Seniors Erin Insell will play volleyball at Colorado<br />

State at Pueblo, Emily Phillips will play at Colorado College, Kate DeLess will play at Gettysburg<br />

College and Lauren Powell will play at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. Congratulations to the<br />

following players on their all district achievements: Alison Jennings- academic all-district. Erin Insell-<br />

academic all-district, honorable mention all-district. Jordan Lee- Academic all-district, Maddie Slater-<br />

academic all-district, 1st team all district and recently committed to play volleyball at Northwestern<br />

University in 2013, Tatiana Jessen- academic all-district, Lexi Schnakeburg- academic all-district,<br />

Lauren Powell- academic all-district, Lauryn Altena- academic all-district, Courtney Eckenrode-<br />

academic all-district, 1st team all-district, Kelly Quinn- academic all-district, District <strong>14</strong>-5A Defensive<br />

player of the year, Emily Phillips- academic all-district, 1st team all-district, Riley Johnson- academic alldistrict,<br />

Courtney Quinn- academic all-district, 2nd team all-district, Kate DeLess- academic all-district,<br />

honorable mention all-district, Morgan Eason- academic all-district.<br />

UIL ACADEMIC TEAM - UIL Academic Teams are now forming for Spring Competitions. Students<br />

will compete in Math, Science, Journalism, Spelling, Social Studies, Current Events, Literary Criticism,<br />

Poetry and Prose, Computer Science and Debate. Students can check the UIL bulletin board in the<br />

Cafeteria for event coaches, and then contact the listed coach for the event they are interested in<br />

competing in. <strong>The</strong> first practice meet will be February 4; District competition is March 24 at Conroe<br />

<strong>High</strong> <strong>School</strong>.<br />

FBLA NEWS - We will be assembling Thanksgiving Baskets on Wednesday, <strong>November</strong> 16, 2011, after<br />

school, all members who can attend need to. Our next meeting will be the Monday after Thanksgiving,<br />

Monday, <strong>November</strong> 28, 2011, at 3:00 pm. We will start a fund raiser and look at Competitive Events.<br />

ATTENTION SENIORS AND PARENTS OF SENIORS – Your senior dues are only $90 this year<br />

when paid by February 2, 2012. <strong>The</strong> $90 covers: Prom ticket & prom gift, senior t-shirt, senior picnic &<br />

catering, senior awards night, and much more. Your senior dues are optional and you do not have to pay<br />

them to graduate. However, they must be paid if you want to participate in prom. Bring your check,<br />

payable to TWHS, to the grade level office. You may also pay senior dues at the TWHS Webstore located<br />

on our website. Look for the green menu on the left side of the homepage. On February 3 rd , senior dues<br />

will increase to $95.<br />
