Being brought up in the highly populated Asian Metropolitan - Hong Kong, I am especially aware of the problem
brought by vehicle-oriented urban structure over limited land on our landscape. My design strategy is to create
soft landscape with ecological balance in a simple and pragmatic way utilizing existing resource, making our cities
more livable and sustainable.
Ecological design - Sheaf Square Extension
This project targets to create an urban ood alleviation park using the existing vacant land adjacent
to She eld rail station. A low-lying wetland will be created by opening up the river Porter Brook running
along the site assisted by careful grading. The park will also help increasing biodiversity by integrated
habitat design whilst mitigating ooding in She eld city centre.
Public square design - CIQ Square
The project aims at renewing the Cultural Industries Quarter in She eld, which is a public space located
between the Student Union of She eld Hallam University and a number of art galleries, originally serves
as the cultural heart of She eld. The design approach is to create a multi-functioned public space, with
easy access and balance of soft and hard landscape.
Construction detail design - Library courtyard
The project emphasises on level manipulation, spatial composition and material usage. The site is
a raised terrace area of She eld Western Bank Library, which is expected to be redesigned into a
pleasant recreational space for sta and student of the university. The main idea of this project is to
created a bridge-like walkway with large piece of lowered grassland for visual stimulation whilst
providing recreation use.
Qualitative research -
Participation of disabled children in play space
The research looks at how community participation is included during the design, construction and
management of public space. The topic is chosen because public engagement in landscape design
will undoubtedly enhance the design outcome especially on serving local needs and re ecting local
values, yet the way to engage public needs cautious considerations. It is hoped to obtain understanding
on community participation to assist future landscape projects.
