Building Staff and Services<br />

HALL/APARTMENT STAFF<br />

Community Directors and Resident Directors: They are<br />

professional, live-in staff members who are responsible for<br />

the overall management of each residence hall/apartment<br />

building. They supervise the Resident Advisors, provide<br />

support to all residents in their building and rotate as night<br />

and weekend on call emergency responders.<br />

Resident Advisors: RA’s are sophomore students or upper<br />

class students who have previously lived on campus. They<br />

live on each floor and are trained in conflict mediation,<br />

building community and emergency response to assist<br />

residents. You can meet your RA at check-in and your<br />

required first floor meetings. Get to know your RA, it will<br />

make a big difference.<br />

Maintenance and Housekeeping Staff: These are staff<br />

members in the buildings that take great pride in our halls<br />

and apartments. You may find yourself in contact with<br />

these individuals on a daily basis and you are encouraged<br />

to say hello as they clean common areas and perform<br />

regular building maintenance. Many residents develop great<br />

relationships with these staff members.<br />

Front Desk Staff: These are staff and students who are the<br />

smiling faces at the front desk of each building. They monitor<br />

who comes and goes in and out of the building 24 hours a<br />

day! They also assist in mail services, sign in guests and take<br />

in any reports of maintenance concerns.<br />

You may already be thinking, “where can I find my favorite<br />

candy bar or bag of chips?” <strong>In</strong> a few weeks you may be in<br />

search of where to wash your clothes. Luckily, we can tell<br />

you now where to find these amenities. Once you have<br />

received your OneCard, you can start loading money onto it<br />

immediately at www.onecard.wayne.edu/add.php.<br />

VENDING MACHINES<br />

Vending machines are available in all of the residence halls<br />

and apartments. They are located in or near the lobbies of<br />

each building. Additionally, they can be found in several of<br />

the academic buildings around campus.<br />

TELEPHONE SERVICE<br />

Telephone service is not provided in the residence halls or<br />

apartment buildings. Students are encouraged to utilize<br />

personal cell phones. If you wish to request a personal line<br />

for a fee, please see your front desk for details.<br />

STUDY ROOMS/SOCIAL LOUNGES<br />

Study rooms and social lounges are located on every floor in<br />

Atchison, Ghafari and the Towers Residential Suites.<br />

LAUNDRY LOCATIONS<br />

Laundry facilities are located in in each building.<br />

Atchison and Ghafari: Located on the first floor.<br />

Towers Residential Suites: Located on all odd number<br />

floors.<br />

DeRoy Furnished Apartments: Located on all odd number<br />

floors.<br />

It costs a $1.25 per wash cycle and $1.25 per dry cycle.<br />

Students must deposit money onto their OneCard in order<br />

to use the laundry facilities within the residence halls. DeRoy<br />

facilities are coin or OneCard operated.<br />

CABLE TV<br />

Cable is provided through Dish Network for all residents in<br />

Ghafari, Atchison and the Towers Residential Suites. The<br />

cable in DeRoy Furnished Apartments is provided through<br />

Comcast. Students living in DeRoy with any questions or<br />

concerns about their cable should email wayne_state@cable.<br />

comcast.com.<br />

Each residence hall room/suite/apartment provides at least<br />

one outlet for a coaxial cable. Residents must provide their<br />

own coaxial cables. A cable splitter is also recommended<br />

if you are planning on having more than one television per<br />

room/apartment. The cable channel line-ups in the building<br />

include local stations, ABC Family, HGTV, Disney Channel,<br />

Bravo, ESPN and many others.<br />

INTERNET CONNECTIONS<br />

Free wireless <strong>In</strong>ternet is available to all residents. Personal<br />

routers or wireless access points are prohibited anywhere<br />

within the WSU residence halls or apartments.<br />

All WSU residence halls and apartments are equipped<br />

with high speed <strong>In</strong>ternet connections to the <strong>University</strong>’s<br />

network and <strong>In</strong>ternet via ResNet. WSU Residential Computer<br />

Network, ResNet uses Clean Access systems to regularly<br />

scan computers for viruses and other malicious software. If<br />

a computer fails a security scan, network access is blocked<br />

until the computer passes.<br />

WORKOUT FACILITIES<br />

Exclusive workout facilities are available in the Towers<br />

Residential Suites on all even numbers floors. Not living in the<br />

Towers? A much larger Recreation Center is located just steps<br />

from your room/apartment.<br />

KITCHENETTES<br />

Kitchenettes are located on the third and fifth floors of<br />

Atchison and Ghafari and odd number floors in the Towers.<br />
