Ben Booth, (Right) Tri-County Ag Instructor working with fellow Ag
Instructor Bryan Chisholm, Bowie High School (TX) at The CASE Institute.
Tri-County Agriculture Program
Receives National Certification
The Tri-County Community School Agriculture Program has received
a National Certification from The CASE (Curriculum for Agricultural Science
Education) Institute. Ben Booth, agriculture education instructor at
Tri-County Community Schools, attended training for the Introduction to
Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources, held on June 12 to 23 in Ankeny.
The CASE Institute provided the foundational component of teacher
preparation that is necessary to ensure an instructors readiness to deliver
CASE curricula to students. The CASE Institute also provides a collaborative
setting where teachers are immersed in content specific, project based
instruction.
The CASE Institute for Iowa agriculture instructors was partially funded
by a generous donation by Cargill Animal Nutrition, and the PERKINS dollars
designated for Tri-County provided additional funding for Mr. Booth to
attend. Mr. Booth was in training for eight hours each day with additional
evening homework assignments.
Tri-County will be one of only 40 High Schools in the Nation offering
this Intro to ANFR curriculum to students this year. The CASE institute was
attended by 19 instructors from Iowa and three from out of state. It was held
at the DMACC Ankeny Campus at the New FFA Enrichment Center.
“ I am excited to implement this curriculum in the fall replacing the current
first year Ag course with this highly science project, problem, and activity
oriented curriculum,” Booth said. “This CASE curriculum is current for
agriculture and is cross-walked with all National Science, Math, and English
Standards. It is going to be great to prepare Tri-County students to be 21st
Century Learners with this student center curriculum”
As the fall approaches, Mr. Booth will coordinate with Tri-County science
instructor, Penny Krumm, on the additional equipment that will be necessary
to purchase and share between departments and work on fall preparations
for the new course. Currently 10 freshmen students are enrolled for the
course Intro to AFNR fall and spring semesters.
Local Post Offices May
be on the Chopping Block
As more customers choose to
conduct their postal business online,
on their smart phones and at their
favorite shopping destinations, the
need for the U.S. Postal Service to
maintain its nearly 32,000 retail offices
— the largest retail network
in the country — diminishes. To
that end, the U.S. Postal Service
announced recently that it will be
taking the next step in right-sizing
its expansive retail network by conducting
studies of approximately
3,700 retail offices to determine customer
needs. As part of this effort,
the Postal Service also introduced a
retail-replacement option for affected
communities around the nation.
“Today, more than 35 percent of
the Postal Service’s retail revenue
comes from expanded access locations
such as grocery stores, drug
stores, office supply stores, retail
chains, self-service kiosks, ATMs
and usps.com, open 24/7,” said Postmaster
General Patrick Donahoe.
“Our customer’s habits have made
it clear that they no longer require a
physical post office to conduct most
of their postal business.”
For communities currently without
a postal retail office and for communities
affected by these retail optimization
efforts, the Postal Service
introduced the Village Post Office as
a potential replacement option. Village
Post Offices would be operated
by local businesses, such as pharmacies,
grocery stores and other appropriate
retailers, and would offer
popular postal products and services
such as stamps and flat-rate packaging.
“By working with third-party retailers,
we’re creating easier, more
convenient access to our products
and services when and where our
customers want them,” Donahoe
said. “The Village Post Office will
offer another way for us to meet our
customers’ needs.”
With 32,000 postal retail offices
and more than 70,000 third-party
retailers — Approved Postal Providers
— selling postage stamps and
providing expanded access to other
postal products and services, customers
today have about 100,000
locations across the nation where
they can do business with the Postal
Service.
“The Postal Service of the future
will be smaller, leaner and more
competitive and it will continue to
drive commerce, serve communities
and deliver value,” Donahoe added.
The U.S. Postal Service will consider
closing 178 Iowa post offices,
mainly in small towns, and replacing
many of them with services provided
at convenience stores or other
retail locations.
Among the 178 are Gibson,
Thornburg, Rose Hill, Kirkville, Cedar,
Ollie and Martinsburg post offices.
There will be a meeting on
Friday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. at
the Gibson Presbyterian Church
basement regarding the closing of
the Gibson Post Office.
The Postal Service receives no
tax dollars for operating expenses,
and relies on the sale of postage,
products and services to fund its operations.
Tri-County Dollars for Scholars
Looks for New Members
Tri-County Dollars for Scholars is looking for new members. Dollars
for Scholars has been active at Tri-County since 1999. We currently award
scholarships to all graduating seniors who apply. Fundraising efforts have
allowed us to increase scholarship money given to students each year. We
have a small committee of 5 to 6 regular members and need new members.
This is a program that all students can benefit from and we need help! Help
is needed to work at fundraising efforts and to be future board members, as
many of our current members will no longer have students in school. Dollars
for Scholars meets once a month to plan activities. Activities we have
planned include selling hats and balloons, having a vendor fair, 50/50 raffle,
silent auction, bake sale during conferences, and baking pies for the Flea
Market.
If you are interested in helping this worthwhile effort, please contact a
current member - Gina Garber, Heather Schmidt, Paula Kirkpatrick, Andrea
Coble or Nita Brumbaugh.

Hello everyone. Hope you’ve had a good summer. It’s time for school
and all the activities that go along with it. The first day of school for both
North Mahaska and Montezuma is Aug. 24.
Thoughts and prayers go out to the family of Margaret Schultz who
passed away on Aug. 16.
Karen and Alva Calvert are back home after moving Melinda Calvert to
Buffalo Center. Melinda will be teaching 1st grade in the North Iowa Community
School District.
On Aug. 20 Haleigh Weghorst attended the Reba McEntire concert at
the Iowa State Fair with her Aunt Valerie Lindblom and her cousin Stefanie
Lindblom.
The Corbin family is back home after camping at the state fair and seeing
all the sights. I bet they are already looking forward to next year.
Mike Henry, Cliff Schultz, and Greg Steele all share an Aug. 20 birthday.
The Barnes City scrapbookers and card makers will be getting together
next Saturday, Aug. 27, from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. at 700 Cherry Street.
The Sept. figure 8 races will be here soon. The races will be held on
Sunday, Sept. 11 at 1:00 P.M. at the Betterment Club track. There will be
some exciting racing and good food to eat.
Ponderings
of the Heart
By: Jane Green Larson
Do you recall last week that I wrote a story on the What Cheer Baptist
Church Daily Vacation Bible School and the blessings it held for not only the
students but also the teachers? Do you remember I told you about the little
girl that did not want to go home the first day? She cried stating, “I do not
want to leave my new friends!” Telling her that she could come back tomorrow
would not suffice and it was with great reluctance the child’s aunt took
her home.
Well, I wanted to tell you that I talked to the little girls aunt several days
after the Bible School and she related that a few nights after Bible School had
ended, the little girl was still talking about the children and the stories and
songs she had learned. After her mother kissed her good night, she listened
outside the door as her daughter sang one of the school’s favorite songs. It
was titled, “Deep and Wide, Deep and Wide, There’s a Fountain Flowing
Deep and Wide.” However, because the little girl could not remember all the
words, she continued to simply repeat these three words, “Deep and Wide,
Deep and Wide, Deep and Wide, Deep and Wide, etc., until finally she feel
asleep. The mother was deeply touched with her little girl’s song.
I pondered this happening for days. Can you imagine if the mother’s
heart was touched and mine was indeed touched, what do you think the Lord
Jesus Christ thought of this sweet child singing this precious little song concerning
his love? Surely he cradled this young child in his arms the whole
night through. Jesus’ love for each one of us is certainly very “Deep and
Wide.” May God richly bless you!
De Boef Releases Information
on Legislative Page Program
Rep. Betty De Boef (R-What Cheer) today released information on the
Iowa Legislative Page program. Each year the Iowa House of Representatives,
the Iowa Senate and Legislative Services Agency (LSA) employ Iowa
high school juniors and seniors to serve as Pages for the legislative session.
Duties of the Senate Pages, House Pages, and LSA Pages vary slightly
but generally Pages provide invaluable assistance to Representatives or Senators
and staff by assisting with tasks such as the switchboard, delivering
messages, distributing legislation, assisting committee chairpersons or sorting
amendments. Pages are paid and many schools grant credit for a student’s
work in the Legislature.
Rep. De Boef is encouraging local students to apply for the Page program.
“I hope area students will apply to serve as Legislative Pages. It is a
worthwhile opportunity for students to gain real world experiences, see firsthand
how laws are made, and interact with their government and elected
officials,” said De Boef.
The application for the 2012 Legislative Page Program is due no later
than Friday, October 7, 2011. To receive more information or an application,
visit: http://www.legis.iowa.gov/DOCS/lsaReports/pageInfo/PageApplication.pdf
Thanks to all the coed softball teams who played in
the league games this year. Although it was a very hot
summer the games were well attended. For the 2nd
year in a row our home town team “B & H” has won
the tournament. We especially are grateful to the City
of What Cheer without their support we could not
host the games or the tournaments. We have received
many compliments on our new equipment shed, picnic
tables, and field lime. Our goal is to have a new electronic
scoreboard installed by April 2012. We also want to
thank all the unseen helpers who just show up and see
what needs done and they do it. The yard gets mowed,
the tree was cleaned up, trash gets emptied etc. We also
want to thank all the coaches and parents who give so
willingly of their time to support all the Tri-County Ball
Teams. Once again thanks to everyone involved for a
successful season and we will see you next year.
Services
at New Life
Fellowship
New Life Fellowship Church of
Keswick is hosting a four-day series
of services highlighting teaching
and preaching from God’s word that
demonstrates that God intends for
His children to live victoriously in
Christ Jesus. Service dates are August
25 through August 28.
Victorious living does not mean
that individuals never experience
struggles, frustrations, disappointments
or setbacks in this life. It
means that in the midst of these
things – the storms of life – individuals
can walk in God’s peace and win
the victory.
Perhaps you are in a poor relationship;
you may be struggling at
your job or you may have no job.
You may have experienced a marriage
disappointment, an addiction
to drugs or other substances, or even
a lifetime of loss and dashed hopes.
Perhaps none of these descriptions fit
your life situation and everything is
going well for you. All are welcome
at the Victorious Living Conference.
Come and allow God to minister to
you. Come receive his peace, joy
and love in abundance. All things are
possible in Christ Jesus.
Service times are Thursday, August
25 and Friday, August 26 at
7:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 27
Tales of the Ancient Sportsman
I am writing this far in advance of the deadline, so
I may miss some very important things that have happened.
I will try and catch up next week. The Ancient-ess
and I have some travel commitments over the weekend.
I got in a little bank travel business this week as I
attended the GLAMER Travel Conference in Chicago
Tuesday. This conference was supposed to be in the
Quad Cities on Monday, but due to low numbers they
combined our group with the Chicago group. Those of us
that had registered for the Quad Cities conference were
offered a free bus ride to Chicago on Tuesday.
Now when someone is talking about free, I understand
that language very well. But I also know that there
is no such thing as a free lunch despite what government
officials say. Yes, the ride was free, but it left Bettendorf
a 6:30 am. I decided to go over the night before and get a
motel room. The bus was to meet us at the Hobby Lobby
parking lot in Bettendorf. How fitting. Gypsy Rose was
quite nervous sitting in that Hobby Lobby lot all day, but
she survived without hauling anything away.
The conference wasn’t much, but I did get to share a
lot of good ideas with the folks on the bus. Networking
with other leaders is always the best part of any conference.
The ride was beautiful and the crops in Illinois look
so good. Iowa is not bad either, but we really need a little
rain. We are probably a little better than a month away
for the beginning of the harvest. It should be a good harvest,
but the extreme heat may have cut into the yield a
little.
Since I will be away, I will miss the opening games
of the football season. Tri-County opens a week early at
Midland of Wyoming. Sounds like a really long road trip,
but this Wyoming is in Iowa just southwest of Dubuque.
The Trojans will be looking for their first win in a long
while.
Next Friday the season gets underway full bore and
there are some interesting area matchups. I-35 is at North
Mahaska and the Warhawks are looking to improve on
a sub-par season last year. Eddyville-Blakesburg is at
Montezuma in a battle of two teams that have some holes
* What Cheer United Methodist “SUNDAY
SCHOOL KICK-OFF BRUNCH AND SIGN-UP,” Sunday,
August 28th at 9:30. Parents, bring your children to
this key event. Meet the teachers, sign your students up
and see the classrooms. Brunch will be provided. Let’s
make every effort to support our Sunday School.
* “YOUTH GROUP KICK-OFF,” Wednesday, Sept.
7th from 6:30 - 8:30 at What Cheer United Methodist
Church - 7th Grade and Up. Pizza will be provided.
Bring a munchie. There will be volley ball, bean bag
toss, ladder ball, horseshoes, and LOTS OF LOUD MU-
SIC! Don’t miss your teen learning about Jesus and our
faith in a loving, fun, safe environment.
* SUNDAY SCHOOL STARTS: Sunday, Sept. 11th
@ 9:30. Classes will be available for: Preschool through
2nd grade in the downstair’s lounge. 3rd - 6th grades
to fill. Sigourney-Keota is at Pekin and that is always
a great game. Preston is at Tri-County and Preston has
had some good teams in the past. Pella Christian is at
Des Moines Christian and the Lions have an outstanding
player is Austin Stubbs.
Volleyball begins next week as well and most of our
area teams have some big holes to fill. It will be interesting
to see who steps up to the challenge.
My neighbor boy, Tyler Sash, had a good game in
his first Pro Football game with the Giants. He tied for
the team lead in tackles and forced a fumble. I think the
Giants play the Bears this Monday night. He has signed
a contract with the Giants so I hope he makes the team.
The baseball season continues and it appears that
my Cardinals have thrown in the towel. We can’t beat
the powerful Pirates and nobody is beating the Brewers.
The Flubs have been in the wait until next year mode for
quite a while and I believe we have joined them.
I did manage to get in a little golf this week. I got in
a round Monday afternoon and if I hadn’t messed up the
last hole, I would have shot my all time best. I am hitting
the ball pretty well and I love driving the ball in the
baked August turf. It is just like driving the ball down the
four lane highway.
There was not much happening in our yesterdays, but
I will give you what I found.
75 years ago: Aug. 25, 1936- Hayesville wins two
as they beat Harper 4-3 in 10 innings and Pleasant Plain
7-4. Emery blasted a home run and B. Mertz and H. Martin
added triples in the win over Pleasant Plain. Haines
pitched the win over Harper while Martin doubled, stole
third and scored on a passed ball for the win. Aug. 29-
Clyde “Pud” Bolton scattered seven hits as Bussey beat
Lake View 5-3 in the state semi-pro baseball tourney.
Finders belted a home run for Bussey and Cameron added
a double.
50 years ago: Aug. 31- Oskaloosa’s Bud Knox will
again officiate Big Eight Football. The veteran official
has a nine game Big Eight schedule.
Have a great week and let’s bring on Football!
will be in the first room upstairs, and 7th - 12th grades
will be in the second room upstairs. An Adult Class will
be offered in the fellowship room by the kitchen. We
would like to take this moment to stress how important it
is that you and your children make a commitment to join
us every Sunday. We have purchased a new curriculum
that piggybacks what is learned from Sunday to Sunday.
We are excited to welcome all to join us! See you on
the 11th!
What Cheer Paper
My, how the time flies...The City of Sigourney Flag Football program has encouraged the fundamentals of football to Sigourney and Keota youth since 2001. Above are a couple fun photos
from the 2008 season - note the Handy girls, Lizzy and Lydia, have very long hair. Flag football shutterbugs are encouraged to submit game photos for publication (published as space allows);
please send them to the Regional Sports Editor, Michael Zogg at mfzogg@gmail.com.
In the 2011 season, the program was opened up to include children from the Tri-County and Williamsburg school districts in addition to Sigourney and Keota. The K-1 League games are
all played at the SADC Industrial Park, Sigourney fields. Three of the 2-4 League game are scheduled at the football field in Keota. Program director, Alan Sellers mentioned the possibility of
expanding the program to include children from the English Valleys district for the 2012 season.
“I would like to recognize the flag football leagues, coaches and Lil’ Cobra football players again this year at the first SK Cobras home game,” Sellers added. “I would like all players and
coaches to meet at the south end zone, by the scoreboard, at 7 p.m. (sharp) on Friday, Sept. 2 (SK vs. Wilton). We will parade in front of the home stands as each team is announced and then
we continue around the track to the north end zone, under the goal posts, to form a tunnel for the varsity SK Cobras to run through.”
New Leadership for Keokuk
Tri-County Volleyball
Head Coach
Jessica Ahlberg
By Michael Zogg,
Regional Sports Editor
New head coach
Jessica Ahlberg is
undaunted by the fact
she is taking over a
team that went 0-16
last season.
Ahlberg has gone
right to work with
the team this season,
coaching them on the fundamentals of volleyball
but wants to make sure the girls enjoy the experience.
“I want to make it a fun experience because
you are only in school one time,” Ahlberg said. “I
think every girl should be encouraged to go out. I
encourage everybody to go out even if you haven’t
played before. I want to have teamwork, I want
to have fun, I want to win and I want the girls to
actually learn something.”
The team has taken a fast liking to Ahlberg’s
style of coaching. The girls say that they are having
more fun this year, but they are also working
hard and learning.
Although it is Ahlberg’s first year coaching
the team, she has the advantage of knowing the
school and the players. She graduated from Tri-
County in 2005 after playing volleyball as a setter
for the Trojans.
“We were average,” Ahlberg recalls. “We had a
very good conference when I played.”
After high school Ahlberg attended Kirkwood
and then William Penn University to complete
her degree. She moved back and was an assistant
coach at Tri-County in 2008.
Now she is back as the head coach of Tri-
County. She has been able to bond quickly with
her team because she has known them for years
through her younger sister Teresa Ahlberg who is
a senior on the team this year.
The quick chemistry between the players and
their coach has made for a good start to the preseason.
“My girls are very easy to work with, they are
positive, they help each other out, it’s weird seeing
it, I was not expecting that at all,” Ahlberg said. “I
have a very good bunch of girls this year.”
SK Cobras Football
Head Coach
Jared Jensen
By Michael Zogg,
Regional Sports Editor
It’s a new school
year, a new season and
this year the Sigourney-
Keota Cobras have a new
head football coach.
Jared Jensen, a
native of Creston, comes
to SK after coaching the
Twin Cedars eight-man
football team for three
seasons, going 11-17.
Jensen also coached the basketball team at Twin
Cedars.
Although Jensen said he is grateful to Twin
Cedars, he is excited about his new team and the
winning attitude the Cobras have.
“The kids here want to work, the kids over there,
it was hard to push them because they didn’t want
to work for anything,” Jensen said.
Before Jensen was at Twin Cedar’s he attended
William Penn University where he played quarterback
for four years. After college he played arena
football in St. Louis before getting injured and moving
to Twin Cedar’s to teach Physical Education
and be an assistant coach at William Penn. The
next year he became the high school coach.
One of the biggest hurdles Jensen has had to
face with the move is getting used to the single
wing offense, which has been in place in Sigourney-
Keota for a long time.
“I had never even seen it,” Jensen said. “When I
got here I watched film and the first thing I thought
was, ‘I’ve got a lot to learn.’”
That is exactly what he did. Jensen said he has
been studying the offense all summer long and
thinks he has a pretty good feel for the system after
seeing it in action at William Penn for the team’s
camp.
Now he is comfortable with the offense, he is
focusing on getting to know his players and how to
coach them.
“The biggest challenge is just getting to know
each kid,” he said. “How coachable they are, how
I need to approach each and every one of them.
Obviously you don’t want to treat kids differently,
but you have to coach kids differently.”
Despite those challenges, Jensen and his family
have enjoyed the move.
“Everybody I have met in the community here
has just wanted to help us and ask us how we are
doing,” Jensen said. “It has been good, everybody
has been welcoming and made us feel good about
being here.”
English Valleys Football
Head Coach
Bronson McCulley
By Michael Zogg,
Regional Sports Editor
The English Valleys
football program has
had rapid turnover at
the head coaching position
with three coaches
in a three year stretch,
but new coach Bronson
McCulley is looking to
provide some stability for the players.
“If we can just stay with some consistency
throughout the year, and not even just this year
but the year after, I think they’ve got something
here,” McCulley said. “They’ve got a lot of talent.”
The first order of business for McCulley is
to change the culture of the football program.
Although he thinks the team has talent, he would
like to see them have a little bit more pride in their
school, facilities and their team. He feels like that
will make a big difference in the team.
“It all depends on whether we can get that attitude,
kind of change the mind-set of these kids
and get winning on the right track,” McCulley said.
“It’s going to be tough I think.”
Originally from New Sharon, McCulley graduated
from North Mahaska High School and went to
college at William Penn University. After college he
got a job teaching math at South Tama while he
got his masters in secondary math education.
After getting his masters, he
decided to move closer to home
so he got a job at Sigourney Jr./
Sr. High School where he became
an assistant coach under Bob
Howard for the SK Cobras. After
five seasons with the Cobras,
McCulley decided it was time to
pursue a head-coaching job.
“I wanted to be a head football
coach and the job came open
there in Sigourney and they
passed me up for it,” McCulley
said. “Then this job came open
and a math position opened up,
I have always enjoyed English
Valleys and thought they had
good programs.”
McCulley has already made an
impression on the football team
in English Valleys. The players
say they have never had a coaching
staff that is so intense and
driven and they are seeing that
have a positive impact on the
team.
By Michael Zogg,
Regional Sports Editor
She is a familiar
face around Keota, but
Angela Lyle is new to
the high school crosscountry
scene.
Lyle teaches second
grade and is the junior
high track coach at Keota. Now, Lyle is the high
school the cross-country coach too.
“I enjoy running and coach Fish retired after
last year, so there was an opening for the cross
country job and I was excited to have the opportunity
to do it,” Lyle said.
Lyle is already familiar with the runners on
the team this year thanks to her experience as
the junior high track coach. She coached all ten
of the runners on the team in junior high track,
including her daughter Sierra Lyle, who ran
junior high track just last season.
“It is neat to see them at an older age,” Lyle
said. “I had them in junior high and now they
are older and more mature athletically and in
their attitude, so it is going to be exciting to
work with them again.”
Week 0 Scrimmage Action for
County High School Teams
The Sigourney-Keota Cobras took the field for the first
time this year on Friday, August 19 for the annual Gatorade ®
Scrimmage. The Scrimmage was an exhibition with the first
team offense going against the second team defense and vise
versa, followed by the JV. Photos available online.
At the end of the Scrimmage the Varsity split up into White
and Black teams and played a shortened game. The game was
mostly a defensive struggle with neither squad able to move the
ball consistently, but the White team edged out the Black team
7-0 with the lone scoring play coming on a long run by Colton
Greiner in the teams first possession.
The Sigourney Savages hosted a Gatorade® Scrimmage
on Thursday, August 18 with Sigourney, Iowa Mennonite,
Washington, WACO, Tri-County and English Valleys teams participating.
Trojans Focus on Improvement
After 46-15 Loss in Season Opener
By Michael Zogg,
Regional Sports Editor
A few old problems, from
last season, crept back up for
Tri-County and spoiled their
season opener on the road
against Midland-Wyoming in
Wyoming as the Trojans fell
46-15.
The Trojans nemesis last
season was shoddy tackling
and poor play in the
trenches. Head coach Scott
Edmundson saw both of
those issues creep back up
in the first game of the year.
“Old habits die hard,”
Edmundson said. “As much
as we have been working on
our tackling and our toughness
in practice we still have
to focus on them.”
Part of the problem for
Tri-County seemed to stem
from fatigue. The Trojans got
off to a good start, getting
a couple of stops early in the
game. The Trojans even grabbed
a lead in the first quarter after
Spencer Steinke answered a
Midland touchdown with a 41
rushing touchdown of his own
for a 7-6 lead.
The Trojans fell apart in the
second quarter, however, throwing
two interceptions and losing
a fumble on three straight possessions.
During that stretch,
Edmundson thought fatigue
played a large role. Midland capitalized
and was able to run away
with the wide final margin.
“Both teams were tired early
in the game just because it is
week zero,” Edmundson said.
“I would have liked to see us
handle it better mentally.”
But week zero wasn’t all bad
news for Tri-County. Steinke was
one of the bright spots, following
up his 41 yard touchdown run
with 10 tackles on the other side
of the ball.
“Spencer Steinke really didn’t
surprise me but he did a good job
on defense being aggressive and
attacking,” Edmundson said.
The Trojans were also able to
shore up their safety position as
youngster Zach Kitzman stepped
up, making three tackles and
playing good defense.
“Zach Kitzman really did a
nice job of improving over the
course of the game,” Edmundson
said. “He stepped up and played
physically even though he is not
the biggest kid. He is going to get
better as the season goes along
here.”
Although Edmundson said
the team has a long way to go if
they want to have a successful
year, he is still optimistic about
the rest of the season.
“All and all, I think we got
some good experience from the
first game,” Edmundson said.
“We are going to be able to
rebound from this as long as
everyone keeps their head.”
Senior receiver, Levi Ryals
went down in the first half
with a hyper extended knee.
Ryals sat out the rest of the
game, although Edmundson
said he wanted to come
back out in the second half.
Edmundson said that he
doesn’t expect Ryals to miss
much time, though he wants
to be cautious to make sure
he is healthy for district competition.
The Tri-County Trojans
next game is Friday, August
26, against Preston in
Thornburg for the team’s
home opener. Tri-County will
again focus on their game
plan and execution against
Preston as they try to gear
up for the district portion of
the season.
