Welcome to our 12th Annual spring female and bull sale. I hope you are 

getting rain. Two years ago, I said in my letter, that this is the driest that it has 

ever been in western Oklahoma. We only “thought” it was dry then. Rest assured it 

will start raining soon and good cattle are going to be scarce and hard to buy. 

I know everyone who has a sale, claims to have the best set ever, but I truly 

know this is “bar none” the best set we have ever offered. We don’t keep any bred 

heifers, they all sell. Many of them,I am crazy for selling and truly hate to part 

with. You have the chance to buy, what we have worked hard raising for 35 years 

and start a leading club calf herd or add to an existing program. There will be 

something for everyone. We hope many of these cattle will top the market, but there 

has always been, at least 100 head, that will sell for $2000 or less. Several of 

the heifers, that have sold below the sale average, will more than pay for their self with 

a first calf, we see this happen every year. 

The bulls selling this year, are 20 months old and ready for heavy service. 

They are as stout as you will find anywhere. They will sire the kind of prospects 

that are in big demand. 

We would be glad to help you market the offspring from this offering. Many of 

our customers take advantage of selling their cattle in one of our several sales that we 

have each year, with tremendous results.

THE FACTS OF THE SALE 

This is the largest set of cattle to ever sell in a Cream of the 

Crop offering and one of the largest sets of club calf 

producing females to EVER sell at auction. 

Nearly 200 ET produced cattle will sell out 

of 500 head and represent over 50 donor dams. 

It is estimated, that over 100+ donor dams are 

represented in this offering, through the fi rst three 

generations of their pedigrees. 

Many of the cattle selling are over five generations of 

Kris Black breeding on both the top and bottom side of the pedigree. 

In its twelveth year, the Cream of the Crop has sold between 4000 and 

5000 head of elite, club calf producing genetics. They have generated several million in progeny sales. 

Eight sires make up over 175 head of the offering. These eight bulls and much of their parentage, 

were bred and raised by Kris Black and sold in the Cream of the Crop program.

NEW SUCCESS STORIES FOR 2013 

BRUCE GLOVER has been a volume Cream of the Crop buyer and 

has purchased several of the top cows and heifers. We appreciate 

his confidence in our program. Last summer one of his Yellow 

Jacket, COC bred heifers, that he purchased for $4500, raised a 

$19,500 Carpe Diem steer this spring. 

RICKY & RUSTY DAY keep shelling out great Hereford steers, 

sired by Made Right. Days have been the volume buyers of his 

semen. This year, their four top Made Right steers, averaged over 

$20,000, with a top of $40,000. He was also out of their COC 

30-06 daughter that has produced thousands, upon thousands in 

progeny sales. She has produced Champion and Reserve at Fort 

Worth, Champion at San Antonio and Grand at Odessa, all of 

those steers were sired by Made Right. 

MIKE MIMMS has purchased several COC females for his 

progressive program in Hereford, TX. A Made Right daughter 

purchased for $5000 has been a good investment. The fi rst 

flush out of her brought $6000 and her progeny and embryos 

have generated many times her initial cost. A Yellow Jacket, he 

purchased in 2011, out of the 9730 donor, had an $11,700 calf 

the first time out. Her embryos are also generating top dollar. 

GREG KROUPA and SHANE BOYSEL purchased a full sister to 

Silver Bullet (Donor #159). She continues to produce high sellers, 

champions and AI sire prospects. She has a record that is second to 

none and has produced over 30 time her initial $10,000 price tag. 

She is still going strong today. Two of the high sellers in the 2013 

Donors Unlimited at $28,000 and $8500 were sired by Freeze 

Frame, a COC bull purchased by Kroupa. Also, in the same sale, 

Kroupas full sister to Yellow Jacket doubled her initial $14,000 

investment price in this sale. Her record is also getting long. 

BRADLEY HALE of Miami, TX has been a good COC customer. We 

appreciate his repeat business. He works hard and raises great 

cattle. The Made Right semen and the COC females that he has 

purchased have produced thousands in progeny sales and many 

champions. A No Apologies sired daughter, raised by Hale, just 

sold for $28,000. That heifer, herself, would pay for No Apologies 

initial purchase price of $25,000. Right On, Just Right, Right 

Answer and many more Made Right progeny have been produced 

in the Hale program. 

CHARLIE BEDNORZ raised FREAKNIQUE, the $29,000 COC bull 

from a COC sire, Heat of the Moment, and COC daughter sired by 

Power Alert. Charlie has been a great customer and we appreciate 

getting to merchandise this young herd sire that is now owned by 

SID ROBINSON. You will begin to hear more great things from this 

bull. Sid has been a long time COC customer and has put together 

an outstanding set of females that this bull will work great on. 

RYAN and RORY WENT have been with this program since the 

first female sale. They buy several females year after year. We 

appreciate their business. Last year two of Rorys Charolais females, 

that he purchased for $2000 each, raised a $10,200 heifer and 

$7,500 steer. That’s great return. A $7,000 purchase produced an 

$11,000 heifer calf. We thank them a bunch. 

DAN KYLE keeps coming back and purchasing one of the best 

females each year. Dan has been fl ushing his COC females and 

has had several ET calves that are top sellers. His purchase of Lot 

40 in the 2009 sale, produced an ET Polar Ice that won class 4 

of the AOBs in the 2013 Houston Livestock show. This steer was a 

popular calf with many. This cow has produced over $40,000 in 

progeny sales and he has retained every one of her daughters. 

MIKE and KENT SPEERS at TRI S RANCH purchased several of the 

very best females in 2012 to add to their top producing herd. One 

of them was Lot 252, sired by Polar Ice. She had a $10,000 calf 

that sold this spring. 

JASON SCHEETZ purchased a daughter of Donor 448 and a 

daughter of Yellow Jacket in 2009. He paid $13,000 for half of 

the Lead On x 448 and doubled the bid for full interest and full

possession. To date, she has produced $62,000 in progeny sales 

and $27,000 in embryo sales. She is also the dam of the 2012 

Texas State Fair Grand Champion Steer. That’s a pretty good 

track record. It’s a wonder these northern boys aren’t fl ocking 

in here for Charolais donor dams. The same year he purchased 

half interest in a Yellow Jacket that produced a $15,000 and an 

$8000 steer calf, with just two bulls being born. Last year that 

cow produced another great steer that will be a top contender this 

fall in Iowa. 

TOMMY BYRD is starting a great club calf program in East Texas 

and has left no stones unturned. He purchased the Lot 1 and Lot 2 

bred heifers in the 2012 sale and Lot 1 in the 2011 Fall Bull Sale, 

named Blue Bayou. The first son, of this top selling bull, sold this 

spring and almost paid for his initial $10,000 investment price. 

PAST SUCCESS STORIES 

EDDIE and RAUL MARTINEZ of 5M RANCH purchased half 

interest in Lot 14, a Yellow Jacket daughter named African Queen. 

She was the coolest bred heifer we had sold to date and backed 

by lots of good KBC cow families. Her dam and grand dam 

have been top producers. So far, African Queen has generated 

$167,000 in progeny sale at five years of age. Special Thanks to 

5M Ranch for their purchases over the years and confidence they 

have shown in this program. You will continue to hear more about 

the 5M program in the future. 

JOHN SULLIVAN of Iowa purchased half interest in a W.G. x 

Casper daughter, sight unseen, in 2006 for $8000. That female 

is now the dam of the $39,000 Troubadour, the $32,700.00 No 

Spin Zone and a $20,000 daughter. In addition, she has also 

produced three more head selling at $5000 or more. John’s return 

of $123,000 on an $8000 investment is additional proof he’s a 

good business man! 

SCOTT and EUGENE FULLWOOD have purchased many great 

females and bulls in the Cream of the Crop Sale offerings. We 

think they are great people. They are producing many champion 

caliber club calves. This spring, two of their Cream of the Crop 

Hoo Doo females rang a big bell. The #4 Hoo Doo cow sold 

for $10,000 originally as a bred heifer, this spring she raised 

a $12,000 steer and then Fullwoods resold her for $30,000 

right off the ranch. On top of that, the #69 Hoo Doo cow that

RIGHT STUFF - A top selling bull to Jeffrey Sanchez in the 

2012 Fall Bull Sale. The Sanchez program has been a leading 

COC Customer and this program is doing big things! Full 

sisters to RIGHT STUFF sell as Lots 351 and 352. 

they purchased for $7500 raised the 2012 Champion Limousin 

Steer at San Antonio, then Fullwoods sold her off the ranch for 

$25,000. Also, one of the fi rst sons, of their Cream of the Crop 

herd sire “Bullicious” sold for $14,000.00. Another Cream of 

the Crop purchase, “Calliente,” sired the champion steer at San 

Angelo in 2010. 

BRIAN and DENNIS KENNEDY know about the Cream of the 

Crop genetics, they have been purchasing outstanding females for 

years. They produced the Reserve Grand Steer at Houston out of 

their COC sire, Junior. Their good donors have generated 

thousands in sales. In the spring of 2012, they sold three steer 

and three heifer for $89,000 out of daughters of a Cream of the 

Crop Hoo Doo cow, plus they sold a $10,000 Yellow Jacket out 

of a Hoo Doo Prince that they purchased for $1500. 

CHARLIE and CASEY PARKER are partners with Black Hereford 

Ranch on Torque and Polar Ice. Polar Ice has been a top producer 

for Black Hereford Ranch the last few seasons. Torque has done a 

great job as well, his sons include the top selling sire group in the 

2009 sales with a $29,500.00 top selling steer. Most recently he 

produced the Champion Chi Steer at Houston in 2009. 

RICKY GREY is also an owner in Polar Ice and the breeder and 

co-owner of Torque. Ricky has been a leading Cream of the Crop 

customer, producing many top cattle selling through these sales. 

Special thanks 

LARRY DAVIS and SID ROBINSON are long time Cream of the 

Crop customers that have purchased some of the very best in this 

program. They are our partners on Escalade. We are excited 

about these calves and he is beginning to be used by many 

leading outfits. 

JASON GRAVES of Indiana purchased Lot 72 in the 2008 for 

$3000. A son was named Champion Light Weight Charolais at 

the 2012 San Antonio Stock Show. 

FRED DEROUCHEY purchased two straight Hoo Doo heifers 

from Kris. They are now leading donors in that program. One 

produced a $25,000 son that is now a herd sire for Goddard 

Cattle Co. Thanks Fred for the confidence in this program.

NEAL RAY and CHAMP DAVIS of Davis Cattle Co. in Wheeler, 

Texas have purchased several extra good ones over the years 

in the Cream of the Crop Sales. They produced the $28,000 

Escalade out of a COC purchase in 2008. 

JR STELZER’s decision to purchase the Phylli cow has been a great 

investment. She has produced many times over her original cost 

of $16,000. She is the dam of Yellow Jacket, Polar Ice and many 

other successful cattle. 

BRANDON BIRD has assembled the best females and bulls all 

over the country. Some of his top donors are from Cream of the 

Crop offerings. His purchase of Troubadour and Hagrid have 

been successful choices. Thanks Brandon for using Cream of the 

Crop genetics to build your program. 

BOBBY ROGERS purchased Lot 74, a $3000 daughter of 4114 

Made in 2009 that had a first calf sired by Tank selling for 

$13,000 as an open heifer in the 2010 spring Cream of the 

Crop sale. Bobby likes Herefords now! 

BRANDON HORN Ask Brandon if his Made Right semen was a 

good investment. This spring he sold a $25,000 son and he has 

several daughters that are not for sale. He purchased a $5200 

Charolais bred heifer in the 2010 sale, her fi rst calf sold for 

$7500. In 2009 Brandon bought a real nice bred cow for 

$4000, her calf sold for $19,000. Special Thanks for 

Brandon’s confi dence in our program. 

JOHN FILE, long time COC buyer, produced a 

bull in the 2010 bull sale for $13,500 to Bryan 

Kellogg. He was sired by a COC Picasso son and 

Lifeline daughter. 

DAN SULLIVAN has purchased some outstanding 

Cream of the Crop females over the years. 

Several are some of his best producing donors. 

He purchased a Hereford cow, 9644, that has 

been extra good to him. A daughter sold for 

$25,000 and four more offspring have sold 

for over $20,000. 9644 has proven a great 

investment. Hoo Doo Lizzy, another Sullivan 

purchase has paid for herself. A daughter 

generated $26,500 and she produced a herd 

bull DSUL McSteamy. Two of the top calves in the 

DSUL program this spring were Lizzy offspring. Lot 

396 sold for$4000 in the 2006 sale, she produced a 

$28,000 heifer that was Lot 1 in McKay’s sale. 

EXACTO - The top selling bull in the 2012 fall bull sale. 

Sold to Brandon Bird, a long time customer of the Cream of 

the Crop and one of the most successful club calf producing 

programs in the country. 

JOHN GRAVES purchased Lot 1, Hoo Doo bred heifer in the 

2008 sale, her first calf by Tank sold for $25,000 as a yearling 

bull in the 2009 Cream of the Crop Bull Sale. Named, “No 

Apologies,” he is now owned by Bradley Hale. Many top club 

calf breeders tried to own him. Watch for more progeny out of 

this great cow as well as No Apologies. 

KORKY WISE has assembled one of the premier cow herds in the 

country and many of them are Cream of the Crop females. They 

have produced Grand or Reserve Grand steers at nearly every 

major show in Texas. Korky’s most recent success with a COC 

female was the Reserve Grand Steer at Houston in 2011! 

JOHN BAUMAN purchased Yellow Jacket’s $21,000.00 full sister 

in 2007. Her fi rst calf was a 2009 Denver display bull named 

“Felony,” owned by Bauman and DeRouchey. 

ERNEST CLARK and WADE SHACKLEFORD’s purchase of a 

$3,500.00 Tiger daughter, produced as her fi rst calf, “Duck.” 

Duck was purchased back by Kris Black and has been a leading 

Hereford sire in this program. Since her fi rst calf, she has 

generated over $100,000 in progeny. 

GARY and DON OHLRICHS of Iowa are long time customers. 

They produced a $34,000 steer that was named Reserve 

Champion AOB in Houston from a COC daughter. Another 

Cream of the Crop female, owned with Wade Shackelford 

produced the Champion American at San Antonio in 2008. Lot 

148 Cream of the Crop cow was purchased for $7500. In return, 

four calves produced more than $100,000.00.

• This extra stout daughter of Texas Twister will be easy to spot on sale week. She is super cool necked, up headed 

and has lots of style. She is extra deep sided and deep quartered with tremendous muscle shape. This featured 

heifer is extra complete and very sound—she’s just an all-around package that is a big-time donor candidate. 

Her dam is sired by Lifesaver, the Lifeline son that was a top seller in a past Cream of the Crop Sale that has 

generated many good producing daughters.

• If Kris had a favorite heifer in the offering, this heifer would rank way up there. He has always pointed her out and said, 

“I wish I had a hundred like her.” Lot 303 is sired by the newly proven sire Trailboss, who sells as Lot 496. If this heifer 

doesn’t get you excited about that bull, I don’t know what would. She is a moderate to smaller made powerhouse of a red 

individual. Tons of depth and correctness in a dark red hide. Most importantly, she goes back to one of the most important 

cow families on the place. 

• Kris said about Lot 303, “This heifer comes from one of the most valuable cow families in this program. Her grand dam is 

9730, a Taz x Iabon that was real old Maine breeding. She’s the spittin’ image of what 9730 looked like as a bred heifer. 

She’s complete, moderate and cool looking. She’ll make a big ribbed, front pasture kind of donor female. Red females 

are in big demand.” 

• 9730 was a leading donor cow in the KBC program that was flushed for six or seven years. She produced many 

outstanding progeny. She was the mother of many top selling females in this sale, including a Lot 1. She was moderate 

and huge bodied. Daughters of 9730 sell as Lots 67, 186, 306 and 306A. Granddaughters sells as Lots 5 and 303. 

• Trailboss sells in this offering as Lot 496. Kris had six calves by Trailboss this past fall. That set of calves includes at least

loads of hair this winter—it took a truck to carry off all of the hair around the chute after she was slick sheared. 

She’s club calf built and should work really well to many Charolais sires to generate major top selling steers and

• Her mother and her Angus grandmother were both donors in the Rick Hansen herd. This heifer was still a touch

kinda! She is ultra sound, nice in her rib shape and has a big, square hip that won’t quit. This heifer has the 

pattern and outline that we all love and look for. She will headline any big-time donor outfit for sure. 

• When you consider the power of the pedigree and cow family behind these two heifers, you will understand the 

quality they possess. There is tremendous value here. Kris said, “There won’t be any more 9730 direct daughters, 

and I’m crazy for selling these two.” 9730 has appeared on the bottom side of many successful Cream of the Crop

limited use. Kris said, “Champ called and inquired about selling part or all of Trailboss, and I told him he better 

come see these calves before he makes up his mind.” 

• Trailboss is a powerhouse of a black bull. Wagonmaster, his sire, has generated the stoutest Angus-sired calves 

that we have ever had. The mother of Trailboss has lots of good breeding behind her as well. 

• Trailboss is easy to moderate when it comes to calving ease. Birth weights have ranged from 70 to 90 pounds. 

We recommend him on mature cows and second-calf heifers. He was born unassisted from a first-calf heifer.
