Introduction to ESP, 4 CP

The seminar will seek to introduce students to the language of a broad range of ESP
domains. Thus texts will be read and analysed from numerous scientific and other
disciplines such as: history, archaeology, physics, cosmology, biology, philosophy,
music, engineering and invention, and the arts. The details of the manner in which
students can obtain their credit points will be discussed at the beginning of the
course. The usual attendance rules apply.

ESP Translation Theory and Practice, 4 CP

The course will take in a wide variety of texts. To obtain their marks students will be
expected to attempt to translate the various texts from one week to the next and be
prepared to discuss their approaches and variants in class ‒ including providing
details of the sources used and the choices made from a practical and theoretical
point of view. In addition to being obliged to join at least one group presenting in brief
a translation theory at the beginning of each class, each student will be expected to
keep a learner's diary. The usual attendance rules apply.
