Looking Ahead
Ashoka is an entrepreneurial organization that is constantly evolving to address systemic problems in a
rapidly changing world. The constant influx of systems changing new ideas through our Venture process
gives us the unique opportunity and perspective to spot key patterns and trends across fields and
geographies. One such trend emerging in recent years is a powerful initiative to ensure that all the world’s
children master empathy as a key skill needed in people to power positive change. Together with a group
of Ashoka Fellows whose work fosters the practice of empathy in young people, Ashoka launched its
Empathy work in the United States which is rapidly spreading to key countries around the world. As part
of this initiative we will be actively seeking to identify and launch new Ashoka Fellows whose cutting edge
ideas will invigorate the field.
In the coming years, Ashoka strives to engage 80% of the world’s leading social entrepreneurs in our
network. The reason is that without sourcing innovation across all cultures and regions, our
ability to identify the next opportunity for major change will be biased and limited. Towards this goal we
elected our first Ashoka Fellows in Togo, Niger, and Rwanda and launched our presence in Japan and
Scandinavia. As we continue to deepen our work with the entrepreneurial leaders of the citizen sectors in
these countries we are actively working to expand our Everyone a Changemaker vision to other
regions such as South Korea and the Philippines.
Over the last 30 years Ashoka has created a lasting mark on the citizen sector, making social entrepreneurship
a recognized and highly valued approach to solving systemic social problems. We will continue to
dream of a better world where all are contributing their skills and energy to driving positive change. We
could not have done this without your help and support and we look forward to making the journey
together over the next 30 years to a fundamentally transformed world.
Ashoka’s Financials
Ashoka is entering a period where our impact is increasing as we expand our work with social
entrepreneurs, building a world where every individual can think and act as a Changemaker. This upward
trend is supported by a diverse donor base of business entrepreneurs, their
foundations, as well as corporations, family foundations, and individual supporters.
