District VI Spring Senate Report
by Alicia James, Reporter
The District 6 spring meeting was called to order on April 15, 2012 by President
Tiana Garcia. Pledges were lead by Blake Mueller and Chris Harris. Theresa
Butler followed with the county roll call and the reading of the minutes from the
last meeting. Chris moved to accept the report and after it was seconded, the
motion passed. Rhett Larson then gave the treasurers report. Blake moved to ratify
this report and Alicia James seconded. This motion passed as well. There was a
bill from Kaye Kasza to repay her for the items needed for her nutritional
workshop.
Afterward, each represented county gave a quick report. Next we reviewed the
announcements. The Creative Cooks, Cake Decorating, Demonstration Contests
and Fun Festival are to be held on May 31 at 5:30 in Las Animas. On May 26-28
in Lamar the Memorial Day Horse Clinic and Show will be held. Finally, State
Conference will be June 19-22 in Fort Collins. In Old Business we discussed the
Dance Date Auction at State Conference, where the district would spend between
$50 and $150 for the purchase of a dance with President Tiana. We also discussed
the coins wars between the districts. Extension Agent Lacey Mann volunteered
that if our district won the coin war at State Conference, she would receive a pie to
the face at our December meeting.
In new business we held the election of officers. The results were: President-Rhett
Larson (Otero), Vice-President-Rod Hall (Crowley), Secretary-Theresa Butler
(Prowers), Treasurer-Blake Mueller (Otero), Reporter-Alicia James (Kiowa), and
Executive Officer-Tiana Garcia (Bent). Next, Tiana Garcia, being our out-going
President, announced that she would like to run for State President this upcoming
year. Chris Harris moved we adjourned the meeting, Blake Mueller seconded, and
the motion passed.
around the world; Colorado joined
the program in 1951. Currently,
IFYE participants come from
countries on every continent.
Colorado’s IFYE program is the
strongest in the United States.
Colorado. They will also attend
State 4-H Conference at CSU June
19-21. (With the exception of
Christine who arrives July 9)
life in the United States by
participating in the homestay
experience. All delegates have
medical insurance and personal
spending money.
Record Books
All project record books are available
on line at www.colorado4h.org. If
you would prefer to have the erecords
available by CD, please
notify the Extension office and a CD
will be made for you. Cost of CD
will be $5.00, and will include all
project e-records and supplements,
secretary/treasurer books, and erecord
user guide.
If you have not already done so, now
is a good time to start the dreaded
record books. If you need help or
have questions about filling out the
record books, please contact Brooke
and schedule an appointment to meet
with her.
Spending an hour each month
working on your record books will
make them much easier to finish after
fair or before exhibit day. The
general and family and consumer
science record books are due with the
project at interview judging. The
livestock, small animal and horse
record books are due on Friday,
due August 1.
General and Family and
Consumer Science Project
Exhibit Requirements
Be sure to read the 2012 4-H
requirements! There have been
several changes made to the project
requirements and you can avoid the
surprise and disappointment on
exhibit day if you take the time to
read about your project now.
For example, Cake Decorating Unit 2
is no longer “character” cakes, and
unit 4, which has been “cut-up” cakes
in past years is not available this
year.
The project requirements spell out
what the required exhibit is for
general and family and consumer
science projects, and special 4-H
events held during State Fair. We
follow the same exhibit requirements
for Exhibit Day as the State Fair. The
information is printed in the premium
books, or you can find it online at:
Crowley County 4-H Council
Report
By: Andy Garcia, Reporter
Crowley County 4-H Council held
the Meat Quality Assurance Class at
the Senior Citizen hall on the 29 th of
March. Members of the council
helped with MQA presentations and
clean up. At our meeting we talked
about the concession stand and hiring
a manager. We decided not to hire a
manager and as council along with
Brooke, Susan and parents will run
the concession stand like last year.
We talked about running concessions
for movie night but decided it would
be better to offer the application onto
the Wild Things 4-H club as they are
a big group.
Our next meeting is May 21, 2012 at
5:30PM, at the Crowley County
Fairgrounds.
4-H has given me insights for
my future and has given me
leadership to help me in the
future.
