Use Admire as soon as pollination is<br />
complete but after bees are no longer<br />
foraging. The pyrethroids Asana,<br />
Baythroid, Danitol, Leverage, Mustang<br />
Max, Proaxis, Renounce, and Warrior<br />
also are labeled for control of these<br />
insects at petal fall but are not recommended<br />
because they kill predaceous<br />
mites that feed on European red mite<br />
and twospotted spider mite, thereby<br />
triggering outbreaks of these pest<br />
mites. Lannate also kills predaceous<br />
mites and can trigger pest mite outbreaks.<br />
Treat if mines average two or more<br />
per leaf and larvae are still in the initial<br />
sap-feeding stage on the underside<br />
of the leaves. Apply Agri-Mek with<br />
horticultural oil or a penetrating<br />
surfactant.<br />
White apple leafhopper nymphs<br />
begin hatching at tight cluster and<br />
feed on the underside of apple leaves.<br />
The presence of leafhopper nymphs,<br />
their cast skins, and the white feeding<br />
marks (stippling) on leaves indicate<br />
possible need for control. Management<br />
is needed at petal fall if the<br />
average number of nymphs is one<br />
or more per leaf.<br />
Rosy apple aphid is best treated at<br />
pink, but there is some chance to<br />
control it at petal fall if infestations<br />
develop.<br />
Movento is toxic to honey bees<br />
and can be used only after petal fall.<br />
