<strong>FareStart</strong> – Grants Manager<br />

<strong>FareStart</strong> has an immediate and exciting opening for a private and corporate foundation Grants Manager. This<br />

position will have responsibility for all funding received from corporate and private philanthropic foundations:<br />

providing strategic input, handling relationship management, and submitting proposals and reports. This<br />

position will take ownership of a nearly $2M private grant revenue budget, consisting of relationships with 50+<br />

local and national funders.<br />

The ideal candidate will be driven, organized, an excellent writer, a strong team player, and will demonstrate<br />

the ability to alternate focus between both tactical projects and strategic thinking. You will also successfully<br />

“manage up” and exert influence to inspire others to handle tasks assigned to them. In this full-time position,<br />

you will work in a dynamic, collaborative environment and be able to make a positive difference for individuals<br />

in need in our community.<br />

You have:<br />

5+ years experience in grant seeking and grant writing<br />

Excellent written and verbal communication skills<br />

Collaborative approach; team-player<br />

Skilled at understanding the status of relationships with funders, extracting next steps, and clearly<br />

communicating them to the appropriate person who will act on the next step<br />

Eagerness to delve deep into <strong>FareStart</strong>’s local and national programs so as to gain deep knowledge of<br />

organization and create perspective for authentic, firsthand knowledge that can be conveyed in<br />

proposals<br />

Efficient and effective project management<br />

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite<br />

Commitment to excellence, passion for our mission, and ability to communicate to individuals in all roles<br />

throughout organization<br />

Compensation Package<br />

POSITION: Grants Manager<br />

REPORTS TO: VP, Fund Development<br />

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES<br />

Responsible for management of nearly $2M annual grant revenue budget<br />

Lead on managing prospects and formulating strategic approach to grants<br />

Lead on identifying new prospects, and creating cultivation plan<br />

Organized and effective writer, maintaining attention to deadlines (for submissions and reports), creating<br />

outlines in advance, and ultimately capturing and conveying essence of mission, work, and programs of the<br />

organization<br />

Knowledge and Experience<br />

Deep knowledge of local funding landscape, including both corporate and philanthropic funders<br />

Understanding of national funding landscape<br />

Grant Writing and Prospect Management<br />

Manage calendar for 40+ local foundations/corporations: outlines, deadlines, reports<br />

o Write and submit 30+ private grants per year to existing funders<br />

o Identify 10+ strong new grant sources to whom we will submit proposals annually<br />

o Collaborate on local foundation relations<br />

Manage calendar for 15-20 national foundations/corporations: outlines, deadlines, reports<br />

o Leverage task force for connections and relationships<br />

o Take the lead on initial outreach to new Catalyst Kitchens funding prospects<br />

o Create and communicate next steps in “moves management” for national foundation and corporate<br />

prospects<br />

Job focus will aim to be approximately: 50% grant writing for local programs, 25% for national, 25% in<br />

prospecting/relationship management<br />

Strategy Development<br />

Outline grants well ahead of deadlines<br />

Formulate strategies for specific local funders – both in response to evolving guidelines of existing supporters,<br />

and in identifying new potential prospects<br />

Help formulate strategies for six-figure grants to support Catalyst Kitchens’ “backbone” organization, as well as<br />

large (seven figure) grants to benefit the network via “re-granting”<br />

Candidate Requirements & Core Competencies:<br />

5+ years experience in grant seeking and grant writing required<br />
