doma<strong>in</strong>s of <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>digenous peoples as corporate properties<br />
by <strong>the</strong> Agribus<strong>in</strong>ess, Logg<strong>in</strong>g and M<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g companies,<br />
<strong>the</strong>reby perpetuate <strong>the</strong>ir discrim<strong>in</strong>ation, dislocation and<br />
marg<strong>in</strong>alization.<br />
So I have heard and seen <strong>the</strong> churches realiz<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
s<strong>in</strong>s aga<strong>in</strong>st <strong>the</strong> Indigenous people tried to make amends.<br />
However, <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> guise of Enculturation, Indigenization, <strong>the</strong><br />
churches managed to enriched <strong>the</strong>ir liturgies and religious<br />
celebrations with <strong>in</strong>digenous arts (music, musical <strong>in</strong>struments<br />
and dances), craft and symbols without proper recognition<br />
of <strong>the</strong>ir ethnic <strong>in</strong>tellectual property rights. So I have seen<br />
<strong>the</strong> need for <strong>the</strong> churches to be serious about Enculturation<br />
and Indigenization as Christians have much to learn from<br />
<strong>the</strong> <strong>the</strong>ology and spirituality of <strong>in</strong>digenous peoples as many<br />
have rema<strong>in</strong>ed pure and not yet corrupted.<br />
The challenges to <strong>the</strong> very existence of <strong>the</strong>se<br />
<strong>in</strong>digenous people have not been so severe at <strong>the</strong> present<br />
times brought about by <strong>the</strong> liberalized m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g act of 1995.<br />
So I have seen and heard <strong>the</strong> wanton destruction of <strong>the</strong><br />
mounta<strong>in</strong>s, rivers (Home for <strong>the</strong> IPs) as well as sea coast<br />
from Batanes to Jolo for <strong>the</strong> precious metals, stones and<br />
m<strong>in</strong>erals.<br />
So I have heard and seen communities from north to<br />
south are organiz<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir ranks and are actively participat<strong>in</strong>g<br />
<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> struggle for genu<strong>in</strong>e land rights and self-determ<strong>in</strong>ation<br />
with<strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> framework of <strong>the</strong> Filip<strong>in</strong>o peoples struggle for<br />
genu<strong>in</strong>e democracy, National Industrialization and Quest for<br />
Genu<strong>in</strong>e Peace with Justice. So we have heard <strong>the</strong>ir cries<br />
to <strong>the</strong> churches and church people but may be <strong>the</strong> churches<br />
have not heard or simply refuse to hear it.<br />
learn from <strong>the</strong> struggl<strong>in</strong>g Filip<strong>in</strong>o People<br />
So we have seen and heard <strong>the</strong> noise of <strong>the</strong> peasant<br />
farmers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> rural areas march<strong>in</strong>g almost daily for a share<br />
of <strong>the</strong> lands <strong>the</strong>y could till. The protestations of o<strong>the</strong>rs that<br />
<strong>the</strong> piece of land <strong>the</strong>y are presently till<strong>in</strong>g be spared from<br />
<strong>the</strong> giant agri-bus<strong>in</strong>ess, logg<strong>in</strong>g and m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g. The cries<br />
of <strong>the</strong> urban poor fac<strong>in</strong>g demolition of <strong>the</strong>ir houses and<br />
eviction <strong>in</strong> favor of <strong>the</strong> malls and aggressive development<br />
projects. The anguish of those <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> evacuation centers<br />
due to wars and disaster. So we have seen and heard of <strong>the</strong><br />
factory workers, Civil workers, drivers <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> picket l<strong>in</strong>es<br />
and or march<strong>in</strong>g through <strong>the</strong> streets daily for just wages and<br />
or protest aga<strong>in</strong>st oil price <strong>in</strong>crease. So we have seen and<br />
heard <strong>the</strong> young peoples and students march<strong>in</strong>g through<br />
<strong>the</strong> streets for improved <strong>in</strong>structions and protest aga<strong>in</strong>st<br />
tuition fee <strong>in</strong>creases. A new form of peaceful protest is be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
popularize, “Noynoy<strong>in</strong>g”.<br />
The Philipp<strong>in</strong>es so we have heard has <strong>the</strong> biggest<br />
refugees <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> world <strong>in</strong> terms of people gambl<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir luck<br />
A sem<strong>in</strong>arian receives a medal for academic excellence.<br />
<strong>in</strong> foreign lands not for greener pasture (because <strong>the</strong>re are no<br />
green pastures here <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> first place) but by force of poverty.<br />
So we have seen and heard of <strong>the</strong> anguish of families be<strong>in</strong>g<br />
torn apart and dislocated as a consequence. The silent<br />
anguish of HIV/ AIDS afflicted people is so loud not to be<br />
heard. So we have heard <strong>the</strong> number and it is grow<strong>in</strong>g, of<br />
pastors, priests, Media people, Students, ord<strong>in</strong>ary peasant<br />
farmers, fisher-folks, victims of Extra Judicial Kill<strong>in</strong>gs and<br />
or enforced disappearances perpetrated by <strong>the</strong> government<br />
and or its agents. Simply speak<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> attempt at mak<strong>in</strong>g<br />
a difference <strong>in</strong> society and try<strong>in</strong>g to exercise <strong>the</strong> prophetic<br />
m<strong>in</strong>istry is a d<strong>read</strong>ful crime, <strong>the</strong> sanction of which is death<br />
by EJK or ED. The culture of impunity pervades throughout<br />
<strong>the</strong> land. These are <strong>the</strong> people, <strong>the</strong> very people of God upon<br />
whom He sent his only begotten Son to m<strong>in</strong>ister and even<br />
offered his life and died on <strong>the</strong> cross. These are <strong>the</strong> same<br />
people we are be<strong>in</strong>g ash to go m<strong>in</strong>ister.<br />
Don’t bo<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> powerful and mighty and<br />
rich, <strong>the</strong>y are non-people unless <strong>the</strong>y repent and return unto<br />
<strong>the</strong> Lord. Mary <strong>in</strong> her excitement sang “<strong>the</strong> mighty He had<br />
removed from <strong>the</strong>ir throne and sent away <strong>the</strong> rick empty<br />
handed”. Let <strong>the</strong> non-graduates of St. Andrew m<strong>in</strong>ister to<br />
<strong>the</strong>m. Prophesy and pronounce judgment upon <strong>the</strong>m <strong>in</strong>stead<br />
until <strong>the</strong>y would have repented and become real people.<br />
The biggest blunder of <strong>the</strong> church and <strong>the</strong> m<strong>in</strong>isters<br />
is somehow we have eyes but because of blurred vision we<br />
cannot see, have ears but because of but because earwax we<br />
cannot hear, nose but because of common colds we cannot<br />
smell, sk<strong>in</strong> but because “manhid” we cannot feel, m<strong>in</strong>ds but<br />
scared to th<strong>in</strong>k, heart but cannot love genu<strong>in</strong>ely, lov<strong>in</strong>g only<br />
those who can love us <strong>in</strong> return?<br />
Do we have to wait for Yahweh to appear aga<strong>in</strong> to ano<strong>the</strong>r<br />
Moses <strong>in</strong> Mt. Midian? I am conv<strong>in</strong>ced that <strong>the</strong> noise, cries,<br />
anguish, protestations of <strong>the</strong> People we hear are <strong>the</strong> words of<br />
God, while <strong>the</strong> disasters, devastations, massacres, <strong>the</strong> face of<br />
<strong>the</strong> earth be<strong>in</strong>g torn apart, <strong>the</strong> murder of its natural resources<br />
we witness almost daily is <strong>the</strong> burn<strong>in</strong>g bush.<br />
