Fosters’ Edinburgh Comedy Awards nominee
Chris is a real rising star. As well as being a
highly rated stand-up on the UK comedy circuit,
he's also fast developing an impressive
telly career, having recently appeared alongside
Vic Reeves and Gina McKee in the northern
sitcom Hebburn. Gags include: "My venue
for the Edinburgh Festival is a portacabin, it's
literally a portacabin! I'm a Geordie, in a
Portacabin. I was going to call the show Auf
Wiedersehen Pet Live", and "People sometimes
have trouble understanding my Geordie
accent when I perform.
I walked on stage once
in Nottingham and
shouted 'Alreet?' The
entire crowd just sat in
shocked silence. I
swear I heard one
bloke say, 'I think he's
Swiss! That must have
been a yodel'.”
John Shuttleworth
Stafford Gatehouse Theatre, Sat 3 November;
Birmingham Town Hall, Wed 21 November
Perhaps the most talented comedian ever to emerge from the fair
steel city of Sheffield, John Shuttleworth is a raconteur par excellence,
an accomplished musician, and a man who long ago
ascended like one of his own beloved pigeons into the upper echelons
of the showbusiness world. This gig offers the perfect opportunity
for Midlands-based lovers of light comedy and understated but
up-to-the-minute fashions to enjoy an evening in the company of Mr
Shuttleworth, care of his creator Graham Fellows, a one-time chartbuster
with the unforgettable hit Jilted John.
Kevin Bridges
Birmingham Hippodrome, Sun 11 November; Victoria Hall, Stoke-on-
Trent, Mon 12 November; Warwick Arts Centre, Coventry, Fri 23
November; Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, Sat 24 November
Kevin Bridges was launched into the
comedy stratosphere at the still-tender
age of eighteen, when he reached
the finals of the So You Think You're
Funny? talent contest at the 2005
Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, the
Scotish-born stand-up has been
making comedy look like the easiest
gig in the world, engaging his
audience with a laid-back style of
delivery and bags and bags of
high-quality wit. Jokes include,
“Americans go up to Edinburgh
Castle and think it’s a high
school - every lunchtime
they hear gunfire.”
