Spring 2013 Lincoln Consolidated Schools Have you visited the Food Service Department webpage at www.lincolnk12.org? Click on the Food Service tab and you can find monthly menus, policy updates, helpful information about the program and nutrition, and links to websites to get more information regarding school meals and healthy lifestyles. You can also check your student’s lunch account balance, make a deposit, see what they have been purchasing at breakfast and lunch, and complete an online application for free or reduced priced meals! If you do not have your username and password for Lunch Account access, please email wonnellj@lincolnk12.org. Free and reduced-price meals are available to qualified families. Eligibility is based on family income and size. If you think you may qualify, please fill out one application per family and return to any school office, or mail to Lincoln Consolidated Schools, 8970 Whittaker Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197. Applications are also available on our website at www.lincolnK12.org, under the Food Service tab. Applications will be accepted at any school building, but please mark Business Office on the envelope to ensure prompt delivery. If you received benefits at another school district, you will not be eligible for free or reduced meals at Lincoln Schools until an application has been processed and approved. You may apply for free and reduced-priced meals at any time during the school year. If you are not eligible now but have a later change such as a decrease in household income or an increase in household size, you may complete an application at that time. New applications must be completed every school year. Breakfast @ Lincoln! If there was a way to be less hurried in the morning, would you take advantage of it? If there was a way to improve your child’s grades, would you consider it worthwhile? Breakfast at school could be the answer! Finding the time to fit a healthy breakfast into your child’s daily routine is probably just as difficult as fitting it into your own. Studies show that children who acquire the breakfast habit early are less likely to develop illness, while successful in maintaining a healthy weight, good grades, solid attendance, and overall performance. Breakfast is available at all buildings within Lincoln’s district. The price is $1.20 and menus can be found at each school or on our website at lincolnk12.org under the Foodservice tab. If your children qualify for free or reduced- priced lunch, they also qualify for free or reduced-priced breakfast! ONLINE LUNCH ACCOUNTS Parents may make online credit card deposits to student food service accounts using our secure food service website. Please note that there is a $2.00 fee per transaction to cover processing costs. One deposit may be split among more than one family member without incurring an additional $2.00 fee. Visa, MasterCard, and Discover cards are accepted. A parent user name and password are needed to review your student’s account and to process a credit card deposit. To request a login and password please e-mail Jim Wonnell at wonnellj@lincolnK12.org. Include student name(s), parent name(s), and home address. Please allow approximately 48 hours for a reply. Skills USA is an organization geared towards career technical students. Students participate in a local competition, in which the winner proceeds to regionals and then the best proceed to states. Emmanuel went to regionals and competed against students from Washtenaw County, Detroit, Pontiac, and other various places, and placed 1st. Not only did he place first, he blew them out by over 100 points. THIS PROGRAM IS AN EXTENSION OF LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL LINCOLN HIGH SCHOOL ADVISORY CLASS On your student’s second semester schedule, you will notice a new class called “Advisory,” which was implemented during this semester at Lincoln High School. Advisory is part of our redesign plan, data driven, and state recommended for academic improvement. Advisories have been shown to improve school climate and communication, improve parent/community contact, and is a school-wide initiative that will reach all LHS students. An advisory period is a scheduled time given during the school day to make connections between staff-students, teach soft skills (study skills, time management, PBIS goals, anti-bullying), explore career development, and monitor academic progress. This is a research-based concept, which improves communication, school climate, student support, and academic achievement. Advisory at LHS will occur on Tuesday, starting on 1/29, between 2nd and 3rd hour for 40 minutes, and the lessons will be consistent building-wide in every class/teacher. The LHS community is excited to see what Advisory can do to improve our students’ experiences, and how this can put our school on the road to further success! Spring 2013
