The HVAC housing extends into the
passenger compartment as opposed to
running along the bulkhead. This places
the cabin air filter on the left side of the
glove box assembly (Fig. 20). To replace
the filter, remove the hush panel and then
the door, and pull the filter out by
bending it down and pulling rearward.

Depending on the option packages, there
are two different audio systems available.
The base system has a conventional head
unit mounted in the center stack that
houses all the electronics in the system.
The premium Chrysler telematics
platform (CTP) has the user-interface
mounted in the center stack, but the
AM/FM receiver is mounted above the
glove compartment, while the CD player
is mounted in the center console.
In an effort to realize every fuel economy
gain possible, the Dart features a number
of aerodynamic improvements. With the
car on a lift, you will notice the full-length
under body panels (Fig. 21). These panels
smooth airflow under the car and improve
fuel economy.

You will also notice the active grille
shutters on the lower grille (Fig. 22).This
system will automatically close the lower
intake when commanded by the PCM.
This significantly reduces aerodynamic
drag by directing air around, rather than
through the car

The shutters will open under conditions
that call for maximum cooling ability like
towing, high load conditions, or hot city
driving. That will do it for this month’s
