I. THE FIRST STEPS
July-August 1991
The preceding two years of the new business environment
after the events of November 1989 brought the first experiences,
successes and disappointments, and also served as
a source of inspiration. The question of “what next?” filled
the mind. A group of enthusiasts, centred around Mr. Libor
Hájek, made the decision on how to individually enter the
business world.
To create their own Czech company.
The arbour of the Přibyl family garden at Na Havránce in
Prague 4 was where the later actors met in July and August
– Ing. Libor Hájek, Zdeňka Molnárová, Ing. Pavel Přibyl and
JUDr. Ing. Bohumil Studýnka.
And here the idea of establishing the company, and its first vision,
were born.
The name ELTODO
– from the Spanish “everything”
– was thought up at the time by
JUDr. Ing. Bohumil Studýnka.
The Company’s Vision
It was based on the assumption that it would be a small
company with its roots in the past, relying on the cleverness,
and particularly the skill, of Czech technicians. They wanted
to develop along these guidelines:
the management of industrial and technological processes,
road transportation and utility systems,
electric and energy propulsion,
engineering, business and real estate activities.
Where to seek out roots
– a young company with a long tradition
The company is based on the historical tradition of the hightech
Czech nation of pre-war Czechoslovakia and the Czech
industrial tradition of the age of Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Indeed, following the example of London (1868) New York
(1918) and Berlin (1922), the Prague City Council, in view of
the development of automobile traffic, had already decided
in 1927 to direct traffic using light signals, and installed the
first light signal on Hybernská Street in the same year. And
more were added every year – 1928 on Jindřišská Street,
then in 1930 on Můstek.
Even after the war, development took place in a similar manner
– thanks to the businesses Elektrosignál Prague (esta-
blished in 1880) and Elektropodnik (a company with a fifty
Light controlled junction at Radlická – City Circle
-year tradition), light-signalling devices had been installed at
33 intersections by 1966. The goal of the company was to
accelerate this process.
Today there are 470 light-controlled intersections in Prague.
We have similarly tied into tradition in other fields. After the
privatization of Elektropodnik, which was mainly focused
on public lighting and controlling traffic with signal lights,
we were still able to draw from an older technical tradition.
In 1847, the Prague City Council resolved to establish gas
lighting in the Old Town – and on 15 September 1847, 200
gas lamps were lit. Today we have renewed them – over 120
have been re-installed.
Gradually the beautiful cast-iron columns and virtually artistic
lampposts were perfected; they were not only efficient,
but they also raised national self-confidence.
The first permanent electric lighting in Prague was installed
by F. Křižík in 1882 using his arc lights. In the following years
he equipped various industrial companies with them, and
after Prague they gradually made their way to a number of
other cities.
ELTODO continues in these technical and artistic traditions.
We want not only Prague to shine, but other Czech cities as
well. We are returning these
beautiful period atmospheres
to our nation‘s historical
centers with historic replicas
of lampposts and lighting,
and we are also developing
modern technology and progress.
We want to contribute
to the Czech nation‘s position
among the world‘s technical
leaders, as it was in the past.

The district court of Prague 1 registered ELTODO spol. s r.o.
into the business registry on 19.9.1991. The company founders
were Ing. Libor Hájek and Zdeňka Molnárová.

Characteristics of the company from that period:
very limited financial resources, enthusiasm of the founders
and supporters, entrepreneurship, the pursuit of a high
technical level, courage, working passion of the whole staff
and a near-family atmosphere.
Economic stability was achieved through activities in road
transport, the successful wholesale of electronic components,
engineering activities and the results of real estate
agents.

the newly formed company was not able to grow in the garage
and temporary rooms which had served as its first retreat – so
it looked for a new site of action.

Over time, spaces began to
be tight. When the opportunity
arose to rent a building on
Čerčanská which was owned
by UTRINU, we did not hesitate.
Originally this had been a
building marked for demolition,
so the move was preceded by
a major reconstruction and
negotiations on the purchase.
We moved over the course
of March 199, and for several
years afterwards this was the
primary tent of our little company.

The contractual ties of cooperation are set with BP Oil
Czechoslovakia s.r.o. and ELTODO, involving engineering
and electrical installations for the construction of the Barrandovská
petrol station. This petrol station, the first type of
foreign station in Czechoslovakia, was put into operation in
Christmas of 1992.

We entered into a contract for
work with TSK to for a light

started work immediately.
By the 30 th of June 1992, everything worked
It began to look as though 1992 would be a successful year
through and through. In August came the first big contract
from the construction of engineering buildings on the
supply of a management operational system and tunnel
technology for the Strahov Tunnel. This provided interesting
and fantastic work for several years.

A courageous but far-sighted decision was to participate in
the tender process and the subsequent closing of the purchase
contract with the City of Prague, by which the area
under construction on Novodvorská Street was obtained. Its
rapid extension into a competitive administrative center with
a wide range of services was to be great test, but later also
an excellent reference.

During the years 1994–1996 extensive renovation and completion
of the Novodvorská complex took place in order to
turn it into a representative company headquarters as well
as a business center used by dozens of small and large
businesses – Telecom, Microsoft, Landys&Gyr, and others.

Following the completion of the Strahov Tunnel, the company
developed several unique designs that are now patent
protected. The tunnel is not only useful and functional but is
also an aesthetic and beautiful technical work.

The technologies used meet the most exacting standards

ELTODO also secured the entire supply of technology (including
long-distance transmission on PČR) for the Hřebeč
road tunnel near Svitavy. With the privatization, we became
one of the leading companies specializing in the supply of
tunnel technology.

1998 8 th year
The year 1998 is rich in work. In addition to participating
in the construction of Husovický Tunnel in Brno and the
reconstruction of the Těšnovský Tunnel in Prague, ELTODO
realized its first major foreign supply of tunnel technology
and transportation design for four tunnels on the Tarsus-
Adana-Gaziantep highway in southeastern Turkey. The
subject of the delivery is a transport control system (designed
by intelligent traffic signs with the LonWorks ® data
network based on freely programmable stations of General
Electric-Fanuc), fixed and variable traffic signs, lights, traffic
lights, vehicle detectors and a control station.

The company ELTODO Louny, s.r.o. was formed, its mission
being the realization of the PPP project of delegated
management of public lighting in Louny and the surrounding
villages. This is the first such project outside of Prague. Fulfilling
the goal of lighting up and cultivating the municipalities
and villages across the country has begun.

Leading European companies begin to show interest in direct
cooperation with a dynamic company who has built a
solid market position. In association with CITELUM, a.s. (a
subsidiary of the French CITÉLUM SA and Vychodočeská
Energetika) ELTODO, on 20. 11. 1998, obtained delegated
administration of public and festive lighting in Prague for 15
years. This is one of the first PPP‘s (Public Private Partnership)
in the country. The project is currently implemented in
208 cities and municipalities in the Czech Republic and we
are extending it further.

Another major step towards global cooperation was made
when, together with Siemens s.r.o., we founded ELTODO
dopravní systémy s.r.o. The company continues in its activities
in transport and tunnel systems enriched by cooperation
with the Siemens Group to other segments of road transport.

Keeping on top and staying ahead of the competition means
constantly following the latest world trends and developments
in technology and science, but also in society, prognostics,
and the philosophy of the day. Our participation in
such events is an essential part of our work.

An extraordinary General Assembly was held in which we assumed
management of the company ENERGOVOD, a.s. This
meant an extension of our supply and service portfolio in the
energy sector (particularly in the supply of electrical power
equipment parts and technological systems, distribution
points and transformers; design, engineering and electrical
work; and the construction of transmission and distribution
lines at all voltage levels).

s r.o. The company ensures the preparation for the construction,

The formation of Českomoravská energetická, a.s., founded
for the purpose of supplying electricity to eligible customers
in the new environment of a deregulated and liberalized
electricity market in the Czech Republic.
Its subsidiary is Slévárna a strojírna, a.s. manufacturing in
Pilníkov including street furniture made of cast iron. This is
an old master craft which breathes life into Old Prague. We
produce historic replicas using the original technique of
manual casting.

With the purchase of commercial shares in the company
MIS-ELEKTROTECHNIKA, s.r.o., the ELTODO company
fulfils its intention to penetrate into the region of Moravia and
Silesia with a range of products and services of the group
which further expands with a range of disassembly diagnostics,
maintenance and inspections of electrical equipment..
On 7 July 2002 the company changes its name to ELTODO
MIS-ELEKTROTECHNIKA, s.r.o.
The central dispatch of ELTODO EG, a.s., since its inception
in 2001, in addition to collecting, processing and transmitting
information covering a wide range of activities of the
ELTODO Group, provides the direct management, coordination
and monitoring of all work in the field not only in the city

In 2002, ELTODO EG, a.s. concentrates on penetrating into
“walking distance”. The company is renamed from ELTODO

headquarters to Skalice. Close cooperation with Elektrovod
Bratislava culminates in the entrance into the company of
Elektrovod Košice, s.r.o., which soon gets a major contract
for delegating the management of public lighting in Košice.

and optical light parameters.

Opening of major transport construction Mrázovka Tunnel.
The ELTODO dopravní systémy s.r.o. company successfully
acquit the supplies and played a significant role in providing
and installing the central management system (for transport
and technology) – the KERBERUS system, as well as the delivery
of SOS reports, variable signs, switchboards, 22 kV substations,
22 kV switching stations and equipment for measuring
CO and opacity. The tunnel construction commissioning
was preceded by other transportation construction in the
Smichov area, the Zlichov-Radlická underpass (completed
in 2003) where we also supplied the technological equipment.

Sitina Tunnel completed
On Saturday 23 June, the opening ceremony of the Sitina
highway tunnel in Bratislava took place. ELTODO EG a.s. was
among the major suppliers of this important road construction
with the implementation of all technological tunnel equipment.
The tunnel connected the entire Bratislava bypass and
linked the Czech Republic with Hungary via Bratislava. The
tunnel route goes under Sitina Hill in the foothills of the Little
Carpathian Mountains.

Tušimice Power Plant – the first contract from
the extensive rehabilitation of coal power plants
As part of the complex rehabilitation of ETU 2, Eltodo delivers
a significant part of low and high-voltage wiring for
the constructional part of the power plants. Participation
in the reconstruction of the Tušimice power plant increases
Eltodo‘s chance to participate in other ČEZ plans related to
the extensive renovation, modernization and construction of
thermal power plants. Tušimice 2 power plant is the first thermal
power plant which is to be completely rehabilitated. Its
entire current capacity of 4x200 MW will be replaced by new
technology with a life span of 25 years.

Eltodo purchases Vegacom
The Eltodo Group is soon to grow significantly. On November
20 th , an agreement was initialled with Antsia Limited of the
PPF Investments Group for the purchase of Vegacom, a.s.
The transaction included not only the parent company Vegacom,
but also its three subsidiary companies – TELEMONT
Slovensko a.s. and Vegacom Slovakia a.s. which, as their
name suggests, work in the territory of our eastern neighbours,
as well as the Mediumstroj company, active in the
Russian Federation.

Ceremonial lighting of the City Hall
building in České Budějovice
In March, the mayor of České Budějovice was presented
with a new lighting design of the main facade of the City
Hall of České Budějovice. The lighting design was prepared
by real imaging methods. The basis for this method is a 3D
of the Town Hall constructed for this purpose. The proposal
was developed by a festive lighting team of the ELTODO-
CITELUM s.r.o. company. The implementation took place at
the end of the year.

In May, the substation as a whole was put into full operation
after completing the 2nd stage and successful testing. The
2nd stage of reconstruction and repair of the R 35kV substation
in Semily on transformer TR 110/35kV was completed
in August 2007. Supply involved the total reconstruction of
posts 1 to 23, including building tower substation switches
and the exchange of section disconnecting switches to cell
bridges between the terminal poles and substation portals.

Strategic contract: Telematics on D1
Work was launched on the most frequented Czech Highway
D1 to extend the existing information system, which consists
inter alia of a set of information panels (equipment for operating
information, or ZPI), and variable traffic signs (PDZ). EL-
TODO EG, a.s. supplies 22 ZPI, 22 PDZ and the respective
local control units. Thanks to them, the National Traffic Information
Center (NDIC) will be able to inform drivers of any
serious incidents on the highway better than now. The date
of completion of the work was set at 30.10. 2008.

The last launched construction of the south ring road around
Prague (hereafter as SOKP) is an over 8 km-long stretch of
512 motorway connecting Highway D1 with the just finished
segment of 513 also known as Lahovice – Vestec. Although
there are no tunnel structures on this route, being the domain
of our supplies to the constructions of SOKP 513 and 514,
the ELTODO EG company will also take part in its technological
equipment – the construction of low voltage power
connections, and relay of the power cables of the Želivka
water feeder cables.

The Joint Tunnel Systems Laboratory launches
its activities
In early May, the activities of the Joint Tunnel Systems Laboratory
(SLTS) were inaugurated in the Eltodo Group headquarters
on Novodvorská Street in Prague. This is an international
project of the ČVUT, Žilina University, and the Eltodo
Group. The aim of this cooperation is primarily to optimize
and continually improve the safety of tunnel systems in the
Czech and Slovak Republics.

The Telefónica O2 company
is an important customer.
A whole new market opened up for Eltodo last September.
After successful negotiations, ELTODO EG, a.s. concluded a
contract with the German company Scheidt & Bachmann on
a joint advance into the market for railway signalling systems
in the Czech Republic.
Under the contract, Eltodo becomes the exclusive supplier
of German company’s technology for the Czech market. Eltodo
will responsible for the sale of these technologies as
well as their installation and maintenance.

Delivery of large-scale display for HDŘÚ in Prague
In January of this year, ELTODO EG, a.s. successfully closed
out one of the most important stages of the project ŘS DŘÚ
HMP (Control system of the traffic control center of the City
of Prague). The operational set deals with large-scale displays
for main traffic centrally. All work from preparation to
transition lasted less than 14 days, during full traffic. The
large-scale display wall can display up to 21 composite analogue
video signals and up to 8 digital video streaming flows
anywhere on its surface.

The companies of Siemens s.r.o. and Eltodo agreed to amend
the shareholding in the joint venture ELTODO dopravní systémy
s.r.o. ELTODO DS purchased 51% of the shares of Siemens
into its company, making ELTODO dopravní systémy
s.r.o. a 100% part of the Eltodo Group. At the same time of
the contract for the purchase of the Siemens shares, a contract
was closed on the continuing technical and commercial
cooperation in the field of highway transport.

Completion of the HDŘÚ reconstruction
After a year and a half, the project “Control system of the traffic
control center of the City of Prague” after our “Reconstruction
of HDŘÚ” is coming to an end. The total volume of work
included the complete replacement of the display wall, adjustment
of the electric installation and conditioning, delivery of
new dispatch stations, HW platform for highly available data
centers, and especially the repair of the visualization hardware
for the management structure of the tunnels in Prague.

Prague Ring Road – Construction 515
On 22.12.2010, ELTODO EG, a.s. closed a contract for work
with Dálniční stavba Praha, a.s. for the supply of transport
infrastructure on the construction of the Prague Ring Road,
part 515. Its scope makes it one of our company’s most
important orders. The construction is geographically divided
into 4 parts.
Part I – 515 (Slivenec-Třebonice), parts II and III (highway
D1), part IV (SSÚD building in Mirošovice) – the complete
supply includes systems for linear traffic management, traffic
census and video surveillance, performing complete reconstructions
of the SOS alert system, weather stations,
communication and power systems, laying a long-distance
optical cable, and supplying technology for the surveillance
of infrastructure supplied to the D1 highway. An important
part of the delivery, as part of the 515 SOKP construction,
is the preparation of project documentation.

Charles Bridge has a new face
The repair of the bridge deck and stone parapet in November
2010 meant the end of bridge repairs that are to ensure the
structure’s durability, user comfort and safety for many years
to come. The repair and renovation of the oldest bridge in
Prague and the second oldest surviving bridge in the Czech
Republic was largely contributed to by ELTODO EG, a.s.,

Opening of the Laboratory for Traffic Management
At the turn of 2010-2011 the Laboratory for Traffic Management
and Modelling saw its grand opening at the ČVUT
Faculty of Transport, which was created with the assistance
of the ČVUT Faculty of Transport and the Eltodo Group.
The purpose of the laboratory is primarily to support teaching
and research activities of the transport faculty and linking
these activities to the private sector, where they can find
practical applications.

Data Center for the Czech Office of the Government
A data center was delivered to
the building of the Czech Office
of the Government in the
Straka College building on
the Edvard Beneš embankment
in Prague. Our task was
to deliver complete technical
equipment of the data room,
electrical installation, structured
cabling, air conditioning,
and to carry out the necessary
construction work. The
requirement of the investor for
the supply of all safety features
and equipment was the
ownership of the NBÚ certificate
for “top secret” level.

Education
We realize that people decide on the success of the company,
and that intellectual capital will decide everything in
the future. This is why on March 11, 1999, we founded the
ELTODO, s.r.o. Vocational School with two teaching fields:
low-voltage electrician and high-voltage electrician. The
school began its work on September 1, 2000.
From September 2003 another teaching field was added –
electrical equipment engineer and remote follow-up study
completed by graduation exams. On September 1, 2005,
instruction began for a four-year daily study of electrical
technology, and the school was renamed the ELTODO s.r.o.
High School of Industrial Electrical Technology.

Vice-president of ELTODO EG, a.s. Pavel Přibyl was appointed

professor of Engineering Informatics for ČVUT in Prague on
23 October 2003, and was appointed visiting professor at
Žilina University on February 15, 2006.
