Spotlight on York
Serving Patients and Families in York
and Adams Counties
Hospice & Community Care’s York Home Hospice Team now
provides hospice care, wound care, dementia support and
bereavement support to patients and families in York and
Adams counties.
Many of the patients we’ve cared for from the York area have
received care at one of our two Inpatient Centers.
Support through the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss is
available to patients, families and all community members in
York and Adams counties, with most programs available free
of charge, due to generous community support.
Can you be a
Camp Buddy?
Volunteers are needed for Camp Mend A Heart and Camp
Chimaqua—could you serve as a buddy to accompany a
grieving child? A registered nurse and a certified lifeguard
are also needed to volunteer at Camp Mend A Heart. The
Pathways Center for Grief & Loss provides two wonderful
opportunities for children impacted by the loss of a loved one:
• Camp Mend A Heart, a one-day camp for children and
teens ages 6–18 who are grieving—Saturday, June 1, 9:00
a.m. to 7:30 p.m., at York YWCA’s Camp Cann-Edi-On.
• Camp Chimaqua, an overnight weekend camp for
grieving children ages 6–12—June 7–9, at Camp Donegal
in York County.
The focus of both camps is to help children learn about loss,
develop coping skills, build self-confidence and learn how
to trust and love again. A trained adult buddy is paired with
each child camper to provide constant companionship,
support and supervision. It’s a fun and meaningful event—for
both buddies and campers. Please call Sonya Hershey-Velasco
at (717) 391-2413 to request a volunteer buddy application.
November 30 Extraordinary Give Success
thank you! We were overwhelmed by the generosity and participation of the
community during the Lancaster County Foundation’s “Extraordinary Give”
campaign in November. Generous support for Hospice & Community Care
resulted in:
• $20,162 raised
• Plus an additional $5,760 in prizes and matching funds
…all to provide care and support for Hospice patients and families.
We are grateful to everyone who participated. A special thanks to
Rodgers & Associates for hosting a special event at The Manor.
