Rock Creek School<br />
Rock Creek School provides individualized special education<br />
programs for eligible students with severe intellectual, physical,<br />
emotional, hearing, visual and learning disabilities, from age 3<br />
through the school year they reach age 21. Students are admitted by<br />
the county IEP team process.<br />
The school offers an appropriate life skills curriculum with<br />
emphasis on functional academic skills, social skills training,<br />
community-based instruction, personal management and communication<br />
skills. Older students participate in vocational training,<br />
supported employment and work-study programs. Students may<br />
be referred to the Career and Technology Center for transition<br />
skills classes. Transition planning prepares graduating students<br />
for employment or additional training through adult day placement.<br />
Related services may include adapted art, music and physical<br />
education, swimming, physical and occupational therapy, and<br />
speech/language therapy.<br />
Rock Creek School works closely with the ARC of <strong>Frederick</strong><br />
<strong>County</strong>, <strong>Frederick</strong> <strong>County</strong> Developmental Center, Division of<br />
Rehabilitative Services and Developmental Disabilities Administration<br />
to coordinate services for students and their families. ★<br />
Challenges Program<br />
“Challenges” serves the needs of students, ages 3-21, with<br />
autism and/or severe communication disorders. The program uses<br />
a variety of instructional strategies, including Applied Behavioral<br />
Analysis, based on individual student needs. Classes are staffed<br />
with a high adult-to-student ratio, and opportunities are available<br />
for inclusion in general education, as appropriate. The program<br />
takes place at Carroll Manor Elementary, Governor Thomas<br />
Johnson Middle and High, Middletown Primary and Elementary<br />
and Oakdale Middle. ★<br />
Learning for Life<br />
This program is housed in a regular school setting and is<br />
designed to meet the needs of moderately disabled students that<br />
are not diploma bound. Small-group instruction is based on IEP<br />
goals, and students have opportunities for inclusion with nondisabled<br />
peers, as appropriate. Students learn functional life skills<br />
as well as academics. ★<br />
Partners for Success<br />
Partners for Success, at Rock Creek School, serves parents<br />
and educational professionals of all <strong>Frederick</strong> <strong>County</strong> children<br />
and youth with disabilities from ages 3 through 21. To parents,<br />
Partners for Success offers individual consultation, an information<br />
and referral service, problem-solving assistance, training<br />
and support. To educators, the program offers information on<br />
disabilities and support for making accommodations for students<br />
with special needs. ★<br />
Pyramid Program<br />
The Pyramid Program serves students with significant<br />
emotional/behavioral needs, who require intensive special<br />
education and therapeutic services in a small-group setting.<br />
Students have opportunities for inclusion in general education<br />
classes with non-disabled peers, as appropriate. Most students<br />
also receive special transportation and other related services.<br />
The Pyramid Program is housed at Lewistown Elementary,<br />
Ballenger Creek Middle, New Market Middle, Tuscarora High<br />
and Walkersville High. ★<br />

SUCCESS Program<br />
Located in Walkersville, this program provides post- secondary<br />
transition education for students ages 18-21 who have completed<br />
at least 4 years in a comprehensive high school and exhibit<br />
potential for competitive employment. Students earn a Maryland<br />
Certificate of Completion. They work in a community-based<br />
setting to learn skills for independent living and are exposed to<br />
the world of work. ★<br />
