Welcome to you all to the CESHK Annual Conference 2013!<br />
MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT 會長致辭<br />
<strong>The</strong> CESHK is a dynamic and fast-growing community, and<br />
its annual conferences <strong>of</strong>fer us great opportunities to share<br />
together. Comparative education serves as a unique lens that<br />
empowers us to understand the changing reality, but our<br />
mission is even broader. Drawing on the virtues <strong>of</strong> this approach and perspective, we are<br />
provoked to reflect on how educational reform in various contexts may lead to a new future<br />
for our younger generation in particular and bring a renewed hope for humankind in general.<br />
<strong>The</strong> conference theme this year is “<strong>Education</strong>al Reform and Social Change: East-West<br />
Dialogue,” aiming at a communicative platform for the exchange <strong>of</strong> various ideas and actions<br />
for development in this shrinking globe where there is much confusion and we are all facing<br />
new uncertainties. This conference provides a special fit for the dialogue among educational<br />
reformers, practitioners and thinkers from the Asia-Pacific Region and the rest <strong>of</strong> the world.<br />
What we debate today will ensure us a better way to re-envisage our global community<br />
tomorrow.<br />
To have friends come afar is a joy, is it not? It is my great honor and joy to extend my<br />
appreciation, on behalf <strong>of</strong> the CESHK Executive Committee, to our distinguished keynote<br />
speakers and rest <strong>of</strong> you, for your valuable contributions to this conference. I urge, then, in<br />
giving richer meaning to the needed dialogue between the East and West, all <strong>of</strong> us to make<br />
the most <strong>of</strong> our participation in this event. Let us explore each other’s company and also<br />
enjoy the many delights <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> has to <strong>of</strong>fer.<br />
My hearty thanks go to the Organizing Committee and student volunteers who have devoted<br />
endless hours to put together for us a great event today. Special thanks also go to the Chinese<br />
<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> as our sponsor and the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Hong</strong> <strong>Kong</strong> and the <strong>Hong</strong><br />
<strong>Kong</strong> Institute <strong>of</strong> <strong>Education</strong> as co-sponsors.<br />
