HKU Centenary Gala Dinner
The University of Hong Kong held a gala dinner on
December 18, 2011 at the Hong Kong Convention and
Exhibition Centre as part of the University’s centenary
celebration activities. Over 360 tables were prepared
for all the guests who attended. A bazaar at the
University Drive, a 200-meter long corridor, was also
set up between the Old and New Wings with thematic
photo backdrops to refresh participants’ memories of
their university days.
The Faculty hosted three tables for our alumni, donors,
staff, students, and friends who supported this historic
event. The participants included Mrs Cherry Tse,
Dr Catherine Chan and Dr K.W. Cheung from the
Education Bureau, Mr Eric Chan, Miss Daisy Li and
Mr Peter Ip, Chairpersons of the Faculty’s Advisory
Committees, Dr Nicholas Sampson, Dr Mark King
and Dr Andy Gao from the HKU Education Faculty
Research Degrees Alumni Association (HKUEdRDAA),
Mr Edmond Ho, Mr Eric Ngan, Mr Jonathan Ng,
Ms Angela Yeung and Mr K.Y. Ip from the HKU
Education Alumni Association (HKUEdAA), Mr David

Woo, Mr Benson Chiao and Miss Charlie Chick,
student representatives, Professor Jing Zhou, alumna
and Deputy Dean of East China Normal University,
Professor Alvin Leung, Professor C.C. Lam and
Professor Cecilia Chun from The Chinese University
of Hong Kong, as well as Professor Y.C. Cheng and
Professor Dennis Mclnerney from The Hong Kong
Institute of Education. Some of our generous donors
were also present, including Professor Robert Chan of
Chui & Lau Solicitors and Notaries, Mrs Anne Marden
of Marden Foundation, and Mr Dennis Tin of Tin Ka
Ping Foundation. Professor Stephen Andrews, Dean,
Professor Nancy Law, Dr Angel Lin, Dr Ida Mok, Dr
M.F. Pang and Professor Edwin Yiu, Associate Deans,
Professor Mark Bray, Chairman of Faculty Board, and
Ms Queenie Wong, Development and Communications
Manager of the Faculty, participated in this memorable
event.
We wish to take this opportunity to thank our
supporters, alumni, and friends for nurturing HKU by
affirming its core values, projecting its spirit, and sharing
its main objectives of providing knowledge, heritage,
and service. The members of the Faculty who gathered
together and celebrated the HKU’s centenary had an
enjoyable evening.
