QUINLAN, Paul D.<br />

Mr. Quinlan is a full pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> history at Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island,<br />

where he has been teaching East European and Russian history for over thirty years. He is also a<br />

long-time Center Associate at the Davis Center for Russian and <strong>Eurasian</strong> <strong>Studies</strong> at Harvard<br />

University. His specific field <strong>of</strong> research is modern Romanian and Moldovan history and politics.<br />

He also has a strong background in East European and Russian history.<br />

Mr. Quinlan also authored four books as well as published numerous articles in scholarly<br />

journals on Moldova and Romania. Three <strong>of</strong> his more recent articles on Moldova are “Moldova<br />

under Lucinschi,” and “Back to the Future: An Overview <strong>of</strong> Moldova under Voronin,” published<br />

in Demokratizatsiya, and “A Foot in Both Camps: Moldova and the Transnistrian Conundrum<br />

from the Kozak Memorandum,” published in the East European Quarterly. He received his Ph.D.<br />

from Boston College, where he did a doctoral thesis under Pr<strong>of</strong>essor Radu Florescu.<br />

SENGUPTA, Rakesh<br />

Mr. holds a Master degree in Chemistry from University <strong>of</strong> Calcutta, India. Currently he is<br />

pursuing Ph.D. in Cognitive Science at Center for Neural and Cognitive Science, University <strong>of</strong><br />

Hyderabad, India and a visiting research scholar at Center for Mind/Brain Sciences (CiMec),<br />

University <strong>of</strong> Trento, Italy. Some <strong>of</strong> his past work includes presenting a poster on Quantum<br />

Molecular Dynamics in Theoretical Chemistry Symposium, India (2006), working as Experience<br />

Designer in Navaraga Information Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (2008-2009), working as research<br />

assistant and co-ordinator <strong>of</strong> Mission Project for Virtual Labs in International Institute <strong>of</strong><br />

Information Technology, Hyderabad (2009-2011). His current interests are Computational and<br />

Cognitive Neuroscience, Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Science, History <strong>of</strong> Ideas, Philosophy <strong>of</strong> Mind, Rational<br />

and Social Choice Theory.<br />

SYED, Damsaz Ali<br />

Received a M.A. degree in History at the University <strong>of</strong> Kashmir in 2006. At present he is<br />

pursuing a Ph.D. program in history through the faculty <strong>of</strong> School <strong>of</strong> Social Sciences at Indira<br />

Gandhi National Open University, New Delhi. His main area <strong>of</strong> research is Kashmiri history; he<br />

published several papers in this field. Mr. Syed has a command <strong>of</strong> the Urdu, Kashmiri, English,<br />

and German languages.<br />
