Filoli is pleased to extend the opportunity for artists
and photographers to have access to the gardens after
hours. Registration is limited to artists who work
with watercolor, pen, pencil, charcoal, pastels and
photography. No oils or acrylics, please. Space is
limited; pre-registration is recommended.
SPECIAL Artist Access - Nature Photography
Thursday, August 10, 2006, 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Guides: Filoli Nature Education Docents
Cost: $15 members; $20 non-members
This is a rare opportunity for inspiring photographers
to capture Filoli’s outback in the light of the setting
sun. Trained Nature Education Docents will guide
small groups on a nature hike to ideal locations for
photography. Because this is a nature hike dress
appropriately: layered clothes, comfortable shoes.
Please, no tripods.
Watercolor Workshop: Masking and
Glazing Techniques
Friday, September 15 and Saturday, September 16,
9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Instructor: Guy Magallanes
Cost: $200 members; $240 non-members. Price
includes all materials.
If you want to use color in a fun exciting way, this is the
workshop you’ve been waiting for. Students will learn
masking and glazing techniques which help control the
tones and qualities of color in their artwork. This class
will include many demonstrations and fun exercises
to build your masking and glazing knowledge and
experience. Guy is a fun, dynamic instructor, so put on
your creative hat, roll up your sleeves and get ready for
a jam-packed workshop of discovery.

Calligraphy Workshop: Designing and Creating
Invitations and Announcements
Thursdays, September 14, 21 & October 5, 12, 19, 26

Instructor: Sarah Loesch Frank
Cost: $180 members; $220 non-members
Do you have some calligraphy experience and wish to hone
those skills, learn how to apply those skills to projects? If
so, this is the workshop for you. Students will be taught
how to design and create invitations and announcements,
allowing them to add that personal touch and flare when
celebrating special events. A materials list will be sent
upon registration.
Fall Bouquets in Watercolor
Friday, October 13 and

Have you ever brought in a fresh
cut bouquet of flowers and thought
if only I could paint or draw this.
Fresh arrangements of fall flowers and fruits found at Filoli
will be the subject of this two-day workshop. Students can
also bring their own container and learn how to compose
an arrangement. Class will begin with a demonstration
and exploration of composition and design with the use
of color, highlighting placement and design, followed by
painting or drawing, emphasizing the use of lighting and
shadows for depth and composition. Students should
have some painting experience.

Pique Assiette Workshop
Fall Fiesta

Instructor: Dori Powell
Cost: $80 members; $95 non-members. Price includes
materials.
Discover the popular French mosaic technique of breaking
old china or tile and re-assembling them onto table tops,
pottery, stepping stones or any durable smooth surface to
create a unique and colorful work of art. In this one-day
workshop, you will learn the entire process. Participants
will complete two garden stepping stones in class. A
supplies list will be provided upon registration.
